In case you were wondering what happened to Saoirse Ronan after Brooklyn, she made "Ladybird". Someone actually made a movie about life in Sacramento, California that doesn't suck. Go watch it.

The Last Jedi - the ending was cool but some parts were a bit boring imo like the pointless codebreaker subplot

Why do people say it's pointless? The codebreaker betrayed the rebels. He caused the destruction of the ships headed toward Crait (the old rebel base). He indirectly killed dozens of rebels. Finding a codebreaker was a stupid plan that led to the decimation of the remainder of the rebels.

Well yeah, tbh what I thought is kinda pointless is that they were supposed to find a codebreaker in the particular at the casino, and they spent so much time there but finally came back with a guy they barely knew who betrayed them and so their whole mission was ruined... And like you said, it even got rebels killed too

I just don't get why the writers spent so much time for this subplot (that didn't brought anything to the story) than on stories that could have more interesting- like where did Snoke come from or who were really Rey's parents :)

It brought everything to the story. Also, the codebreaker they were looking for was also unknown to them. I would say that the plan was hastily conceived and poorly played out.

Been falling asleep watching The Blacklist on Netflix, lately. Bit repetitive/formulaic, but I can’t get enough of James Spader getting paid to basically continue being Robert California in an alternate reality. Though I do like to combine the two.

I'm watching this movie, it was cheap on Amazon, All The Money In The World, its about some real Jaguar type dude whose kid gets kidnapped by some hoodlum hippy types.

This rich guy is a real jerk but there's something about him, maybe its just that bad guys are just more interesting than saint sometimes.

Absolutely wonderful cast.

I made up for lost time and watched five movies over the longish weekend:
- Thoroughbreds
- The Greatest Showman...
- Hereditary
- The Princess Bride
- Thor: Ragnarok

I already commented on Hereditary and Thoroughbreds in their own threads.

The Greatest Showman, I kind of hate. One quick fix -- do not make about PT Barnum, make it about a fictitious ringleader BASED on PT Barnum. Because it kind of had no meaning whatsoever. The director also had only directed TV commercials and boy did that show. There is no narrative arc. It's all pretty much like being on one continual coke buzz, blaring at the top of its lungs. Ironically, I was thinking, "This is like High School Musicial for adults, blasting at 11" and I totally forgot Zac Efron was in it, so I about lost it when he appears. Anyway, it's more on the level of "morality" play; there is no real nuance of character or situation, it's just noise and sound and "all time high." I would have had more fun getting a root canal. People would like to compare it to Moulin Rouge, except they actually had a story and characterization there and some variation in the music based on the emotional needs of the scenes; this film was essentially just a video advertisement for the film's soundtrack, all of which sounded like the top 40 pop cookie cutter sound du jour.

Thor: Ragnarok, I actually enjoyed more on this SECOND viewing. I still think Hela was kind of one-note even if kinda cool at first --- but she was so nasty, why did she even need an army? And if she needed an army, why did she butcher all of Asgard's army? And....? Well, you get the idea. I did forget the post-credits scene... it TOTALLY LEADS INTO INFINITY WARS. Doh. Tessa Thompson is still easily the MVP of this film.

The Princess Bride... well, I just hadn't watched it for a few years and wanted to see it again. There's nothing to compare to the sequence where Inigo finally catches up with Count Rogan. For a kind of gentle jokey movie, that scene is so powerful.

I've been watching a lot of Netflix Originals lately:

Safe, right now. Started out a bit slow but now I'm into it.
13 Reasons Why (It was okay. I thought the second season was better actually)
Dear White People (I like this one.)

But the best is On My Block. IT IS SO GOOD. I'm obsessed with it. WATCH IT!!!

Blade of the Immortal. An orphaned girl enlists the aid of an immortal swordsman to kill a gang of powerful warriors. No plot here; it's just non-stop killing. Highly recommended if you enjoyed '300'.

Legion S2 was relying too often S1 to be saved. We can only hope they redeem themselves next season.

WestWorld S2 dragged on with memories, it's sluggish start in s1 redeemed by its ending, only I felt as if they were impatient at the end of the season not knowing what to do with the plot. S3 feels rushed.

I feel as if shows these days are too politically charged... a message consumable in the form of entertainment. I hate it but I could imagine myself doing the same thing if doing a show.

Political documentaries are fine, in fact, encouraged... but seriously to feel like you're nannied while watching a show does get dry.. at least for me.

I can only hope GoT S8 is worth the wait
