Love Patsy, Etta, and Aretha, too. My favorite singer is Ann Wilson of Heart--KILLER rock voice. Robert Plant of Led Zeppelin. Ella Fitzgerald. Stevie Nicks. Johnny Cash. Hmmm, there are more, but I can't think.

Me, for my fuck-ass suck band.

They suck. Not me. I'm great.

I'm that full of myself. But I actually can sing...

I also approve of Geddy Lee, not like every other yuppie who says his voice is too womanish.. whatever the hell that means, and James Hetfield.

Hetfield is a dick, but he's got a monster voice.

Know who sucks ass? Dave Mustaine. This is not my opinion. It is musical fact, that vocals should go through the mouth only. Nose singing as well as any other noted orifice is not permitted. This is why megadeth is illegal (even though Marty Friedman is king of guitar).

I can't think of who else is worthy of mention.

Same here. Good point. I add myself to the list. LOL.

What is it about us lead singers that make us so awesome?

The vocalists that I admire for their voices are as follows:

Chris Cornell of Soundgarden/Temple of the Dog/Audioslave/Solo Career, as recently stated
Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons of KISS
Layne Staley and Jerry Cantrell of Alice in Chains and Mad Season, respectively
Myles Kennedy of Alter Bridge
Mike Bankston
Cathy Jordan of Dervish
Mary Dillon of Deanta
Frank Sinatra
Joe Elliot of Def Leppard
Lacey Mosley of Flyleaf
Jon Micah Sumrall of Kutless
Robert Plant of Led Zeppelin
Roger Waters and David Gilmour of Pink Floyd (Syd Barrett, vocally, not so much)
BOTH David Lee Roth and Sammy Hagar of Van Halen and their solo careers, respectively

Now, the lyricists that I like would be the following people:

Whoever wrote the Bible songs
Chris Cornell
Jon Micah Sumrall
Cathy Jordan
Scott Stapp
Myles Kennedy
Joe Elliot
Luke Kelly
Gavin Rosdale
Brandon Boyd
Roger Waters, David Gilmour and Syd Barrett
KISS
Mike Bankston

I'm probably leaving something out and will immediately regret this decision, but that's everything.

^ Love Layne Staley. I should have included him, especially since he's the singer I can most approximately ape :)

For me it comes down to just five.

Paul McCartney- incredible voice great range and tone. Can sing Rock and Ballads equally well. Just listen to that note he hits in Hey Jude, it is crazy.

Freddie Mercury- Can't believe he hasn't been mentioned, fantastic all round performer. Love his range and tone. "Bohemian Rhapsody" is a tour de force.

Matt Bellamy- Once again a lead singer with a fantastic vocal range, hits it all live as well. Fantastic.

Aretha Franklin- What can be said that hasn't already been said about her? Is fantastic in both the highs and lows of a song. Powerful.

Roy Orbison- Just when you think he is going to stop he keeps on going higher. Makes it all look incrediably easy also.

I'm not a musician, so I don't know what consititues musical talent, I only know what voices I do and don't like. Although there is a lot of overlap, these are not nescessarily my current favorite bands, just vocalists. If you told me ____ was a guest vocalist on ____ project, it would get my attention sort of thing.

I like a lot of the classic 70s/80s/90s metal and hard rock vocalsists, but not enough to consider most of them as favorites.

Bruce Dickinson - Iron Maiden + Solo
Charlotte Wessels - Delain
Dave King - Flogging Molly
Dwight Yoakam -
Elane Joran - Elane
Enya -
Geoff Tate - Queensryche
Ji-In - Krypteria
Kai Hansen - Gamma Ray + some albums for Helloween and Iron Savior
Kari Rueslatten - Third and the Mortal, Female vocals for Storm + Solo
King Diamond - Merciful Fate + Solo
Kyoko Baertsoen - Lunascape
Lief Sorbye - Tempest
Lisa Middelhauve - Xandria
Liv Kristine - Theatre of Tragedy, Leaves' Eyes and Solo
Marcus Testory - Chamber
Marko Hielata - Tarot + male vocals of Nightwish
Matt Barlow - Iced Earth
Raul Malo - The Mavericks
Randy Travis -
"Rogue" - The Cruxshadows
Sabine Dunser - Elis
Sonja Kraushofer - L'Ame Immortelle and Persephone
Sharon den Adel - Within Temptation
Simone Simons - Epica
