Is a strong woman necessarily always "tough chick"? Just curious.

I dunno, but I'm looking at the multiple definitions of "strong."

That said, what about Hermione Granger in Harry Potter? (Or does she not meet an age quota?)

No age limits, just females.

I am not too familiar with the Harry Potter series myself, but I am sure it is great addition to the list.

I'll admit that some chick flicks are good. The really bad ones are bad because the character is poorly written, silly, or just vague. But with a great female lead, the word chick flick never comes to mind as I'm watching it.

These are awesome films with strong female leads

Hanging Up
My Life Without Me
Sophie's Choice
The Hours
Erin Brockovich
Terminator
In Her Shoes (Toni's character mostly)
Japanese Story
Juno
Hard Candy
Resident Evil

NO....not in the way you likely are defining 'tough chick'

The best female character I've seen in years is the Queen in 300.

The first 20 minutes of that movie is a snapshot of the perfect male/female dynamic......

Her support for her man is epic.....she knows what he needs when he needs it.....and he loves her to death....literally his last thought at the end of the movie is her....

However...........Kate Beckinsale in the Underworld movies wasn't bad either ;)

Helen Harris: Raising Helen

Michelle: Romy and Michelle's High School Reunion

Stacy Holt: Little Black Book

not a movie, but Elphaba from Wicked (I'm sure it will be eventually)

Glinda from Wicked (I prefered the book version of Glinda a little more actually)

Elle Woods: Legally Blonde

Anne Marie: Blue Crush

Penny: Blue Crush

Georgia Burns: Last Holiday

my favorite female characters from tv shows are Sami Brady from Days Of Our
Lives and Allison from Medium.

Yeah....I thought this was about women characters that are well-developed (as in, the writing and performance has complexity, not simply a one-dimensional character to drive the plot). Then halfway through the thread I noticed it became about "tough and strong women" characters, many of whom seem quite flat and unreal to me....

I thought this was an interesting article on "strong female characters":
Why Strong Female Characters Are Bad for Women | Overthinking It
Makes some good points.
