I'm not gonna lie, "Photograph" actually reminds me of some STP guy friends I had in high school, though.

I can even be emotionally manipulated by Nickelback.

"For some reason I don't have any nostalgic feelings connected with classic rock even though I listened to it a lot in 7th-9th grade. I think because I always found it kinda cheesy, since I was also listening to Nirvana & modern alt-rock at the time which to me had more emotion in it"

plus that comment about bikers & hair bands.

Maybe you thought I was an alt-rock bro h8ing on the old school. I actually hate most alt-rock, & I really don't listen to much rock at all. I mostly like pop, hip hop, R&B, electronic music, dub, assorted old stuff (jazz, folk, etc..), & different weird modern 'post-[genre]' stuff.
I'm not picking on you, really, but the "does not compute" vibes are killing me here.

How, how, how is it possible to find classic rock as a whole cheesy (btw, most of the bands you listed as classic rock were absolutely not - there were other genres also produced in the 70s, lol) but not be overwhelmed by the cheese of hiphip, pop etc?

I mean I understand finding some songs of either genre cheesy, but if your cheese threshold is low enough to go around calling an entire genre cheesy, then it's pretty strange to not find hiphop cheesy.

I really don't get it.....

Well, I'm a mysterious guy.

Like I said though, I had a different idea of classic rock while typing that. But yeah, it's true, I find even a lot of the "good" classic rock cheesy for some reason. I guess the bombast & musical ejaculationism of it (esoteric self-invented term, never mind) just makes me chuckle a little inside.

What I like about pop & hip-hop etc is the rhythmic complexity (though that's not always there, & a lot of times is deceptively simple), the funness, melodicism, sensuality / sexuality, & overall timbral complexity. Certainly some of it is cheesy though. Maybe even a lot. But in a positive way.

Something evil inside me wants to torture you with this now.

That's early 80's pop, I wouldn't quite call it synth pop though. Not classic rock.

That's one of the songs I like that I put in my "cheesy" reportoire.

Hmm okay I was thinking of their early 80's music...a lot of their popular songs were in the 80's. I thought Rich Girl was about '80. It's still not guitar rock bro. I put that firmly in pop.

I like Oates best. I mean Garfunkel and Oates.

Kate Micucci is by far the cutest little alien woman I've ever seen.

Yeah!

What's your reaction to this song:

I used to get crazy euphoria from that tune. CRAZY!

Too many notes.
