hey guys, how have your poker glories and pitfalls been going? haha.

we were playing the other night and a friend of mine got a straight flush that was a gamestopper. it put the brakes on everything, for a while- set everything on another track and another gear! i think everybody was changing up their shit for the rest of the night after that, haha!
:nice:

anyway, do you guys have a regular game going, or do you have something going on consistently?
i have a weekly and more+ game, and i love the groove and rhythm that you get into with a consistent and solid game.
oh listen-- i play hold-em for what it's worth.

Sometimes, we get together with friends for a poker night, but it's mostly just an excuse to politely exclude women. Small stakes, big hangovers.:newwink:

One friend hosts games every now and then. I like going, but it sucks when the game lasts until 4 am. Which is definitely a possibility when twice per hand you have to snap people out of daydreams. Let me tell you, those six and eight hour games get a bit tedious.

Frequently heard at our table:
"It's your turn!"
"Hey, deal the cards!"
"Dude, wake up!" "What? Oh, I fold." "You can't, you're big blind."

Which reminds me, I still owe someone who spotted me five bucks at our last game.

That said, I do like going and will almost always join them. It's as much about hanging out as it is the game. We drink and talk shit, and generally have a good time. I've yet to figure out winning tactics against a couple of them -- one who switches to a very loose-aggressive play late in the game, and one who is freaking impossible to get a good read on.

I've thought about hosting games, but I don't have any chips. I'd also have to clean up the back room, eek!

As for glory, I've gotten as high as second place, but I've never won.

I prefer B&M over house games... I love poker, started playing back in high school right before the big poker boom. Gotta love it. Almost managed a poker room a while ago. :headphne:

haha, you've got to crack heads! you've got to have a couple people who are on top of things and ready to PUT SHIT ON TRACK. sometimes you've got to have two people leading in a game, a good cop and a bad cop, hahaha!!
but yeah you are right, games that just drag on and on become such a weird endurance thing eventually. when everybody is sleeping for a couple hours in rotations, and it just drags on, i am not into those games.

haha, good on you man. i've really never been in a game that kept place over the full night, i think we have always totaled our winnings THE DAY AFTER, haha.

i like home games, games with good friends and familiarity!
so that it becomes as much of a social and shit-shooting good-old-boys thing as anything, haha.
i like the looseness when you are playing with OLD FRIENDS, the natural spontaneity of it. it just flows!
you get so you aren't thinking, instead of intently focused on The Game. and that appeals to me.

nice! was that a home run thing or was it at a club or something?
i used to know a guy who ran a huge poker and casino out of his place, and he was an ENTREPRENEUR. he was making money hand-over-fist, it was pretty insane.
