Hardcore isn't just about lag. It's a factor but the most interesting part is dealing with and countering pk's, as well as rolling non cookie cutter builds to get through hell difficulty. My favorite build is a singing barb. It's challenging and requires a lot of strategy. But sure, if all you do is rolling hammerdin's, even hardcore won't be interesting.

PvP is just about bugs and exploiting boring spammable skills from what I've seen. Chargedin for example. I really can't see how diablo pvp can be fun long term. I once made a level 9 pvp char with cow king stuff and such I remember. I played some duels with it for a day or so. Got bored.

hc is all about lag and not making stupid mistakes after you have played the game for about 7 years and can use basicly eny items you want  . killing pkers is no problem since 99.99% of players are total newbies, especially hc players :D . different thing if your using melee sorc or something like that and lite or fire sorc comes tppk you using auto aim and tmc

9lvl pvp(vlld) is boring as hell, i have made 9lvl sacri pala once and got bored to it immidietly, its just click, hold and hope that you get big hits more than your opponent and that you block more than opponent. there arent meny real vlld players at hc tho, so killing some cow king or sigon set using chars(ck boots are 13lvl btw) with sacri pala that makes over 1k dmg and 50% crit and has ~550 life with 75% block is np.

dueling with random newbs is boring as hell, no challenge and no point really. nowadays i play only good mannered lld and mld(29-49lvl duels) with friends(or people i know) who know what theyr doing. occosianally i slay retarted newbies who host my low lvls with theyr crap high lvl chars with my high lvl libby tho. gm duels is all about skills, tactics and knowing your char(and how to build it without needing eny kind of pots(including thawing and manas allso)) and your enemies chars and knowing all of theyr tactics.

The 90's were the best time for the PC. I don't remember exactly when these games were released but here are some good ones I remember from the days of yore. (A lot of the following games have sequels.)

Civilization
Warcraft
Starcraft
Heroes of Might and Magic
Ultima Online
Diablo
Baldur's Gate
Rollercoaster Tycoon
Wing Commander
Monkey Island games

Probably some more I can't think of right now.

my computer isn't a gaming computer by today's standards; I imagine it would have a lot of trouble playing L4D or Half Life 2 even. It's ridden with spyware, lags, blah blah. So I'm catching up on old games that I used to play. Stuff I'm playing/have just played include:

C&C Red Alert
Starcraft, Brood War
Commandos: Behind Enemy Lines
Populous: The Beginning
Need For Speed: Underground
Half Life
Quake 2
Duke Nukem 3d
GTA 2, 3, Vice City (San Andreas gave me some trouble)
Simcity 3000
Tomb Raider 2
Final Fantasy 7
Diablo 2
Darkstone

could you recommend me good games that were released around that period (so that my poor sad computer can handle them)?

Dungeon Keeper :wubbie:

Starship Titanic!

It's a kickass computer game from the 90's, with pretty cool graphics, a really interesting setting, a hilarious script (written by Douglas Adams!), and mind-bending puzzle action. I highly recommend it.

Panzer General was pretty good if you're really into strategy and/or history.

Descent: FreeSpace and FreeSpace 2

Seconded, the best of their genre.

I'd also like to throw out Civilization II, although the graphics or lackthereof may seem a little corny nowadays, but a great game nonetheless.

I'm disappointed how Dune 2 feels like, now. The game plays very slowly on the fastest setting.. didn't bother trough the second level :( I remember feeling it was awesome at the time. I don't want to spoil my memories by seeing more of this ;(

Doom, Doom II worked fine :D Thrills guaranteed.

Tried Eye of the beholder 1 as well. It was easy to use right from the start.. but .. the battle system is clumsy and requires too much micro-managing.. I'll better not play it either, to retain the good memories of it ;)

Descent I is being installed now. Hmm. After that, there's still Command & Conquer to test out.. then I don't know what to continue with. Unless I read some of the recommendations in here and actually take them :D
