Who Else is Upset By The Nightmare On Elm Street Remake?

But Star Trek is much older than Nightmare on Elm Street. The original series of Elm Street movies didn't even end until about 1995.

True. Did I say I disagreed with you? I was trying to explain why it was happening, NOT whether I approved of it.

I think you might as well get used to an accelerated pastiche of the American past. Just as technology cycles shorten between advancements, so you are also going to see an accelerated cannibalism of past American culture. Like I said, the ABILITY to rip off the past has become something the consumer -- and not a bona fide artist -- can do now, due to the internet and tech boom. People with no musical skill can sample and mix their own songs, for goodness sake; the opportunity is now widespread, so remaking things is far simpler and also becoming more engrained in the popular psychology of the culture.

Meanwhile, has patience EVER been an aspect of American commercialism? No. It's driven by money; if they can make a cost assessment and see a profit, it's going to be done by someone... and if you don't do it first, someone ELSE will. Hence, the cycles will shorten... which unfortunately will ruin the project since you HAVE to let things disappear in the past for some time so that the culture can approach them fresh; remaking movies too soon (if at all) ruins the potential for the remake to be worthwhile.

I would fucking kill them...Bill & Ted is sacred material!

The world is definitely going to hell in Keanu Reeve's handbasket.

Um....you can take your battle off this thread and off the site, preferably. This isn't the place for it.

And you can learn to defend the rules better. You are unfit to be a moderator - so you can piss off.

It's a remake of a movie that wasn't very good in the first place. I'm not upset, people should've seen it coming.

Well, Mr. Wes Craven is essentially the modern Sell-Out Horror King, and has been since his initial success. He's the George Lucas of horror.

I hear he's a little upset that his favorite film is being remade without his involvement. Waaah.

I probably won't see it in the theater, but I haven't seen a remake in the theater since Dawn of the Dead. 99% of the remakes are garbage.

So, are you INFJ or ESTP? Make up your mind.
???

Because this is so out of place here, I really don't know what you are trying to accomplish by taking potshots at me.

Because your signature and the type you list under your avatar are different. Today you have ESFJ under your avatar. Apparently you have issues.

I love the original Nightmare. Even if people see it coming it doesn't mean they have to like it. Just because something is a trend doesn't mean we have to accept it.

My ex is boycotting Last House on the Left.

There don't seem to be a huge lot of sentimental horror movie buffs replying to this thread. Oh well.

I've become numb to all the horror remakes. Besides, it's hard for me to be upset over a remake of a Wes Craven film, even if it is his best one. The man started the trend of remaking his own movies, already. I mean, he's behind The Hills Have Eyes remake and The Last House on the Left remake. (The original Last House on the Left, by the way ... TERRIBLE movie. I blind bought it and regretted it, big time.)

Anyway, I'm more upset at the prospect of people remaking Mario Bava's filmography. And there are rumors floating around that people are planning remakes of his best. If they turn Black Sunday into a slick, hyper-edited modern horror movie, it'll go against everything Bava was attempting to do in the original. And a remake of Black Sabbath without Boris Karloff would seem wrong. :p

Bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla, boring stuff bla bla bla bla bla
Yes, it is true, I have about 12 issues of TypologyCentral. I think my subscription will be ending shortly. In the meantime,

the Last House on the Left was a very tasteful depiction of rape. The movie itself was terrible.

They even cut off her hand and showed it to her friend. She screamed.

Also, it's ENTP today, not ESFJ.

Of course this is a subjective opinion. My ex is a horror movie collector - he literally owns thousands of horror movies, many from the 60's and 70's, including Italian Giallos (Gialli?), and he is very well informed about the "best" directors like Jean Rollin, and he loves "Last House on the Left."

I never said it wasn't opinion.
