Heya! Sims 3 was released a few days ago. Have you guys built anything cool yet? I don't play much at all, I just build stuff. I've started building a strange manor-like thing.

Post your pictures and stuff in this thread if you feel like it :)

Not out here yet. Curious to try it. I've heard they're smarter and interact more. I wonder - will it be a step closer to an interactive screensaver? Advanced virtual pets?

After the nonsense of Spore this will hopefully redeem them :D

No, nothing that cool. But my PC sucks anyway, it's 4 years old and Sims 3 works like crap.
I only managed to create a character and its home. But it's a mere "decent" sized mansion. If I create something more worthy, I'll post here!

i don't get this game. i don't get it. i don't get why you would want to waste time on it, or why it would interest anyone beyond girls aged 9-14 for character dress ups. it's like there's no point to playing it at all.

I told my brother Sims 3 is coming out, and he asked me, "WHERE THE HELL HAVE YOU BEEN?!" Clearly, I'm behind the times. :D

Am investigating it now. It looks like a fun improvement from Sims 2. I loved Sims 2, especially building houses and I'll be very pleased to see what kind of content users come up with.

So Jesus, are there any new options for building? Can I finally make skylights and basements without having to use cheat codes and odd terrain malfunctions?

An idea of how you can customise your sim:

Personality traits (can choose any 5 of these):

GameSpot said:
absent-minded, ambitious, angler, artistic, athletic, bookworm, brave, can't stand art, charismatic, childish, clumsy, commitment issues, computer whiz, couch potato, coward, daredevil, dislikes children, easily impressed, evil, excitable, family-oriented, flirty, friendly, frugal, genius, good, good sense of humor, great kisser, green thumb, grumpy, handy, hates the outdoors, heavy sleeper, hopeless romantic, hot-headed, hydrophobic, inappropriate, insane, kleptomaniac, light sleeper, loner, loser, loves the outdoors, lucky, mean spirited, mooch, natural cook, neat, neurotic, never nude (yes, from Arrested Development), no sense of humor, over-emotional, party animal, perfectionist, schmoozer, slob, snob, technophobe, unflirty, unlucky, vegetarian, virtuoso, and workaholic

Life goals:

GameSpot said:
professional author, world-renowned surgeon, become a superstar athlete, CEO of a megacorporation, hit movie composer, heartbreaker, rock star, the tinkerer, become a master thief, forensic specialist: dynamic DNA profiler, become an astronaut, master of the arts, perfect mind/perfect body, gold digger, star news anchor, living in the lap of luxury, jack of all trades, surrounded by family, renaissance sim, chess legend, the culinary librarian, golden tongue/golden fingers, international super spy, super popular, presenting the perfect private aquarium, celebrated five-star chef, illustrious author, swimming in cash, the perfect garden, leader of the free world, the emperor, and become a creature-robot cross-breeder.

Everything is on very specific sliders now. You can make your sim look like just about anyone in the creator. Can change the colour of just about anything and create a "style" that can be applied to certain surfaces in your house.

What I'm particularly excited about is the ability to make an evil, insane mastermind that will take over the world. :D

It's a sandbox game. It's amusing to set up all sorts of situations and see how the people deal with it, with various nudges here and there to do stuff at your command, ranging from silly to serious.

For example, once I made a family of 8 sims and basically stuck them in a large but empty box for a house. Circumstances deteriorated rapidly as they fought one another for food, bed, and bathroom time, and had nothing to do. This was fun to watch for a short while, but then I shifted my goal to recovering to at least a basic living. To do so I had to be creative with my budgeting, get them jobs with different shifts that allowed bed swapping, micromanage some of their actions into more positive lines of discussion, etc. This easily burned an evening away and I could have carried along much longer with loftier objectives.

Same. But I'm really excited to see how the new personality creator thingamabob works. Creating people is my favorite part of the Sims series. Hopefully I can find somewhere else to play it.

I've not played Sims2 for a few years now, but it does have its good points - it's just not a really traditional game - more like Feops said, just a sandbox to play around with. I used to write stories about characters from birth--> death, just sort of see what I got in the next generation and go from there. Eventually I just ran out of stuff to write about, but it was a pretty fun time.

I'm a fan of Sims 3 but my PC has some prob so I can't show ya'll this townhouse I built.

Its an interesting game IF you make it interesting, anyway, on another note...

this has been going around- its a homeless sims story blog. I think the author hasn't updated for a while but its worth a read. I think this is a good example of the sandbox nature of the game, you can virtually do most anything with your sims.
