What are the most beautiful songs? Do F's write them?
I'm talking about songs that you could listen to five times over in a row and turn way up because they're so gorgeous they're like a drug.

I'll start, and then I'll post picks randomly throughout, as well.
I would love to hear from anyone who wants to share!

I have several favorites.

"Seasick Yet Still Docked" by Morrissey (INFJ) is one...

Well, this thread is called "the most beautiful songs in the world"? Right?

I can show you some French oldies:

"Y'a d'la joie" [Charles Trenet] (1937)... an hymn to every extrovert!

----

And now, the opposite mood:

"Ne me quitte pas" (1959)

Astonishingly powerful lyrics... :sadbanana:

---

Another song from the great Jacques Brel:

"Amsterdam" (1964) [with English subtitles]

Now, a very, very old French song:

"Tant que vivray" (1527) -Yes that's Renaissance music, almost 5 centuries ago-

Lyrics by Clément Marot, music by Claudin de Sermisy

---

Thanks, everyone who's posted. I've enjoyed listening to everything. My favorites so far have been "Ne me quitte pas" and "Tant que vivray."

I'd like to add another song. Joanna Newsom's "Esme"* (I was there!):

And this one, her "Baby Birch" (I wasn't there for this one):

*It's a beautiful song, but I can't listen to it anymore, since it was my kitty Joey's favorite. I think he was ISTP and all he ever liked to do was roam outdoors. But I used to sing Esme to him and he'd always come home (and cuddle me sometimes, in the night, like a baby). One very cold night (30 something F), back before Christmas 2008, he just wouldn't come home, though I called and called and sang and sang, late into the night. Finally around 4am I told my boyfriend he could close our door (we didn't want to fall asleep with the door open and get broken in on as we don't live in a very safe area) we'd been keeping open for Joey.

Anyway, we found him dead in the morning, but he didn't seem frozen. He had had a stroke several months before, and now he was lying there stretched out with a grimace. :( I worry still that we shouldn't have shut the door, that he must have frozen, but my boyfriend points out that he could've easily sat up on the water heater cabinet outside our kitchen window like all the kitties do to keep warm, and like I'd seen him do before, if he was cold. He also tells me that cats stay alive outside under much colder conditions in places like Chicago.

So I've accepted that he probably died of a stroke, since there was not a scratch on him. Still today, my heart is a little broken. He was my baby boy who loved the trees and taking naps under bushes and always came home smelling like flowers. *sigh*

That's a good one for this thread.

I'm still thinking about it. If a piece of music matches my mood and moves me, then at the time it feels like it's a beautiful piece but it's very dependent on my mood.

That said, this is one piece that always sounds beautiful to my ears, sung by this choir (starts 30 seconds in):
