Shaun of the Dead should be on somebody’s list. You have to admit, the living dead on TV talk and game shows (not to mention as a minority with politically correct status) tops even Romero’s shopping mall zombies.

Yup, add to that for me: Nightmare on elm street (lol come on now, who wasn't a little afraid to go to sleep after? )

Reminds me of that scene with Patricia Arquette in the beginning of 3 eating spoonfuls of instant coffee straight out of the jar to stay awake.

American Psycho is hands down one of the best scariest movies.

I found it to be very amusing, especially his analysis of the music of Huey Lewis.

You guys need to check out Audition and Three Extremes. Takashi Miike is deliciously over the top in some films; terrifying and deliberate in others. Audition is a must-see for any horror fan.

As for Saw-esque movies, I'll go with Wolf Creek as a favorite. It's a stronger film than Hostel.

For black comedy, I recommend May, about a nutter INFP. Devil's Rejects is a blend of comedy and brutally violent. I recommend.

I thought it was funny.

Being over-the-top and graphic is a specific reason. Maybe not one you like, but a reason nevertheless.

It is intended to evoke a visceral reaction. Looks like Rob Zombie did his job.

I liked Planet Terror. Then again, it wasn't a horror movie. It was a B movie satire. The two movies (Rejects and Planet Terror) aren't even in the same genre. Why are you comparing them?

I'm curious: What is a valid reason to use gore in a horror movie?

Mommy Dearest is pretty damn scary if you ask me,lol.
To this day I can't look at wire hangers,lol.

What also scares me is that Jonas Brothers concert in 3D- the movie doesn't scare me so much as knowing that there are people paying good money to see this. The fact that people are paying to watch scares me very very deeply.

Joy Ride, Signs, Blair Witch, Stay Alive (b-movie, but pretty tense despite that).

And Identity scares the hell out of me, it is NOT a favourite.

Yes I agree but a horror movie does not necessarily mean over the top gore, to me that does not make a horror movie.

Check out some black-whites movies, like Frankenstein or Dracula, those are classic horror movies.

I own Audition on DVD. The final scene, "This wire cuts through flesh and bone." Still makes me squirm. Haven't seen Three Extremes, yet.

Hated Wolf Creek. Anti-climactic to the extreme, borderline misogynistic ... and boring as hell for the first hour.

I liked Hostel, although I wouldn't rank it as a great flick. Undeservedly dubbed "torture porn," as far as I'm concerned.

May is all right, nothing spectacular. I couldn't stand The Devil's Rejects, but fully admit that my mood at the time was not very receptive to it. I'm going to give it another viewing sometime.

Good horror from the past few years:

The Mist -- Probably the best horror of the current decade. Make sure you see the black & white version, as it was originally intended to be in black & white, and the computer effects were originally made for a black and white flim, which is why they look really obvious in the theatrical/color version. The studio forced Darabont to release it in color, though. Fricken dumbasses. As far as story and characterization goes, it's top notch. The ending is a serious kick in the head.

The Descent -- Make sure you see the original cut and not the American cut. The American cut butchers the ending.

A Tale of Two Sisters -- Remade as "The Uninvited" by American studios. The Korean original is creepy as all get-out, with a real mind-bender of an ending.

The Host -- Korean horror/comedy about a monster living in Seoul's Han River that decides to start eating people.

The ending is a serious kick in the head.

That ending stunned me silent for a good 5 minutes. I still can't quite believe they left that in there in a mainstream American horror flick. One of the darkest endings I've ever seen, actually.

I have heard of this movie before, I am trying to remeber if I have seen it or not. Could you give me a brief synopsis of the movie please?
