Does Anyone Speak Spanish here? (or even Ancient Greek)

Next year I want to make a big trip to Europe again and I am thinking Spain. I used to be fluent in Spanish, but it has been a long time since I used it.

I was wondering if anyone here speaks Spanish and would want to chat in Spanish with me about random things?

Or, any suggestions on ways I can brush up on this without taking a class. (Not sure if I have time for a class.)

I would volunteer by my Spanish very rusty and minimal, about 1 year classroom equivalent. Wanna take classes in Spain? Meet up with language exchange partner? Free Rosetta stone and online courses are great for refresher. I've downloaded free for iPad. Usually you get a few classes free or all of them with some programs. Your library might give you access to materials or online classes. For refresher a class is not necessary, just do the above to brush upand it'll come back to you.

Where in Spain?

Fun!

Oh, good plan! I didn't know Rosetta had some free stuff. I was thinking of grabbing that until I saw the price tag... No ty!

I am planning to hit up Madrid, Toledo, and Barcelona. :D

Things aren't set in stone. I am also tempted to do a tour of Italy and Sicily as some of my family is from there and I could visit them. Or Germany/Switzerland.... Or................. And so begins the Ne spiral of wanting. :)

LEARN ESPANISH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Also, I adore how Castilian Spanish sounds and so despite only having South American teachers, I modified how I spoke so it was more Castilian than SA. It's so much softer and liquid sounding.

Yeah when you use the 's' sound replace it with 'th'

The king of spain had a lisp, so everyone copied him and thusly their language evolved I myy foggy memory recalls.

Just go and enjoy yourself, don't make it a burden on yourself

I knew if I mentioned Germany it would be a magic word. :)

I need my ipad for easy accent marks to reply properly... so I shall do it later en Espan

I am thinking of splitting my time in Europe between London (HelenOfTroy ) and Spain. I should have made that clear. I would probably have 5 days at most in Spain with perhaps a day in between the two in Paris.

Because my enthusiasm is always greatest at the moment of inception, I am most excited now to plan and dream and do things that aren't priority in my life. :3

Sure it is if your native language is Italian :p

On the other hand, the two languages are so close that I have seen native speakers of both speaking the other language very badly because they never made an effort to truely learn and instead relied on the similarity to get their message across and comunicate.

Italian does sound better. You have to speak it from your soul.

I can believe this.

My friend did an intensive year Spanish course on the eastern coast and of Spain and then went to Italy to do another year course in Italian there. She said the first Italians she encountered at the train station just laughed at her rudimentary Italian and attempts to get a cab and get help with her bags, so she switched to Spanish, instead. They understood her. I think she relied on Spanish until she got a footing in Italian and she said you could at least get by with it.
