It's not about the internet (at least from my point of view). You can build machines and design software to do many things that are now done by people. What happens when most of that stuff is done by them? You don't need people working. But you still need them as consumers. How can they consume if they have no work?

I'm sure many farmers said this same thing when agricultural technologies started really improving. Former farmers started moving to cities and working in factories. When there is excess labor and money then it will end up being diverted somewhere. We won't really know where though until we see it happening.

That's why if you are looking for a job the best policy is to go out and look at what's new. Who knows what you'll find.

Well, what's left? The trend seems to be that all there will be is the service industry... So we all will be waitresses buying stuff that is made in china.

I hope I'm wrong...

Energy refresh rate towards change incrementally higher than our parents days which means the frequency to change is faster, sooner, broader. The acceptability of such change isn't whether the internet is a positive or negative influence in our lives. The acceptability is whether we are able to move and adapt to the changes that surround our energies in conjunction with everything else. Neither is the impersonal nature that efficiency has turned, its more about the lingering resistance of the psyche from adopting new forms of communication from past ones.

The reason why older generations find it so smegah difficult to adopt technology and newer generations find it easier. Not because they have been trained in its usage, but because their energy shifts and adaptability to change and stressors has shifted, rather adapted towards the ever changing manifestations of time. After all since the advent of interconnectedness information expanded awareness towards more ideas and communication styles than ever before. Of course this would cause stress since generational adaptation would feel out of sync towards that which is moving towards a state of consciousness in accordance with speed at which learning accelerates.

The decline in real time sociable awareness and infrastructure in the job market is a manifestation of differing philosophies. One of ethics and ethics plagued with greed creates a vacuum, a void of sorts that generates the economic pull that is designed the way it is for a reason, to be unstable and insecure as the heart and minds of the people who engage in its hunger of control. And yes skills are going to be made less serviceable when people think with their heads rather than their hearts. hardly a reason to blame the internet for it though.

Or something.

Then you have a gift economy!

...Or a communist revolt. You know, whichever comes first.

People want jobs, but haven't yet acquired the necessary skill sets to acquire the jobs.

Of course as little as 15 years ago, employers were willing to train less than perfectly skilled employees. Now they just moan about skills shortages after rejecting all potential applicants.

I think it depends on the employer. Part of the issue is people don't want to learn new skills. Instead they'd rather get a job they are already trained for.

You're right.

I was talking to a mentor on Friday and she was stressing the need to stay relevent. The company I work for boasts 12,000 strong, but if you eliminate the 8,000 phone reps and transaction processing people, then the 2,000 IT people you have a very small company with limited places to go. You have to stay ahead of technology in a sense. Keep your skills where it can't be automated. That usually means being able to THINK.

Sure, the economy doesn't help. Sure, you can blame your favorite politician. Sure, you can blame our bloated education/college degree system. However, I'd like to blame the internet. [The internet has ruined the job market.
.

1. What good does all of this internet induced savings do if we cant get a job to pay for anything?

<> How many countless internet innovations have lowered the cost of something from $20 to $10, and yet, also costs many people's careers who formerly made a living (10s of thousands of dollars)?

2. The internet has taken the USA of "careers and service jobs" economy, and is slowly turning us into a USA of "Engineers and Customer Service" economy.

<> I kid you not, I know of MANY top 30 school people, who did not have technical degrees, who thought, "hey I'm sure even tech companies need soft skills!?" Right? WRONG.
<> They took jobs at these tech companies thinking it would be some sort of track to management, sales, marketing...NOPE. The technology does all of that shit FOR the tech company, and thus these kids are now top 30 college grads (even IVY league) doing glorified customer service. This is only a taste of the future for the USA.

3. The internet has made the jobs that ARE available, much less torable then they were before! What was once maybe jobs that involved phone, face to face, etc are now jobs that involve sitting in front emails all day.

<> I have to believe that clerical jobs have been made easier by the internet.
<> But who the fuck WANTS a clerical job in the first place!?
<> Every other job that used to have the benefit of NOT sitting at a desk all day crunching numbers, has been turned into sitting at a computer all day doing something else.

I cant possibly be the only one with these sentiments. Can I be?

First, don't blame the internet for human stupidity. Humans still haven't figured out that when you increase productivity to the point that there isn't enough work for everyone, that it should actually provide access to necessities so that we can take advantage of the productivity.

Blame the structure of the monetary system if you must blame something.

Second, where is this fantasy world where all the jobs out there are reading emails all day? And furthermore, that sounds a lot closer to heaven than hell to me. Where can I get this job?

I agree- sounds like my kind of job- :headphne:, I'd just listen to music all day and be like, "LOl UR EMAIL SUX".
The internet has created a lot of job opportunities- just different ones.

We are all doomed to work as customer service!!!! :(

Passive, mundande and boring shit will never make me happy. I don't live for stupid shit. A high paying job that basically amounts to "customer service", "reading emails", "data entry", or "spreadsheets" seriously SUCKS. I don't care about most material things. What's the point of these jobs when work basically defines you? You spend all day there. It ends up defining your attitudes (when you get off work, it's tough to suddenly change thinking patterns), your lifestyle, and your socio-economic levels which very much influences the friends you keep. Work is so very important for these reasons. However, currently, there are only shit options available. Therefore, are we doomed to shit lives?

If you let your job define you than you are under hypnosis and forget what it means to live. You give your energy to that hypnosis and wonder whats left of your identity. When you comfort in it you go to and from work in hypnosis and feel comforted in the trance, for the trance is what helps you through the mundane. And then the mundane seems less like mundane and more like an identity. When you lose that identity you lose yourself and when you lose yourself you lose your sense of reality. When that goes then what is left. Perhaps customer service jobs, perhaps not. Perhaps you learn to enter different kinds of hypnosis in order to deal with the recursive hypnosis that felt comfortable. Resistance is thinking you can't change them, resistance is when you aren't in tune with who you are and find the stress restating your point of reference when the instability and dissatisfaction ensues. We're all doomed if we want to be doomed, but if we want to move forward we express our emotions instead of feeding them to you. And that is what you are doing, you are expressing your emotions and we are feeding them to you. And then we are amplifying your emotions when we should be redirecting your emotions.

Reframing perspective is great and all. (Ni aux here). However, at a certain point we have to deal withe reality either because if it's real effects on our emotions or on us physically. So what is a real solution, one that isn't just reframing?
