In a recent interview Stephen King said, “Rowling and Meyer, they’re speaking directly to young people. The real difference is that Jo Rowling is a terrific writer, and Stephenie Meyer can’t write worth a darn. She’s not very good.” Ouch.
But I pretty much agree. I didn't make it past the 1st Twilight book. I could have easily put it down before I was halfway through, whereas I’ll be re-reading the Harry Potter books every several years for the rest of my life. It’s a much better series in every way than Twilight, destined to become a classic. Twilight is a fad. In a way it reminds me of Anne Rice’s novels, which are like romance stories with supernatural characters. The Twilight genre also owes a huge debt to Buffy, which is far superior to most of the pale imitations it has spawned.
