I think people weren't specifically refering to act or belief in humanity, but humanity in terms of a species. Ergo saying that our species is shit.
When there is no other point of reference I wonder what people are comparing it to. I also have a strong belief in humanity, becuse we are capable of great things. The problem is: It is like the breakthrough of splitting the atom, do you use it as clean energy for the world? Or do you wipe the world clean?
