I've been at this for a while and I go round in circles but most commonly I type as ISFJ, ISTJ, ISFP and INFP (even though those types use different functions it's likely that every time I take tests I'm influenced by my most recent experiences and behaviours no matter how objective and thorough I try to be). Would anyone shed any light on what they think?

1. During your youth (7'ish to 18), What did you focus on the most? What activities did you like and why? What aspect of life was lax in attention?
I was interested in sport (swimming and dance) and committing to performing at the highest levels. My ultimate downfall was that I had such a hard time choosing between them that I never properly committed to either. Image played a big role here if I’m being honest, I was a good dancer but realistically am not built like a ballerina. You only have to look at elite swimmers and pro dancers to see how different they are! In both cases my downfall was that I was very technical yet lacked that ‘umph’ be it stage presence or raw power in the pool. I thought everything through too much. When I was younger (closer to the 7 end of the given bracket) I loved reading anything to do with magic or animals (bonus points if it contained both and was a series consisting of many books). As I got older I liked to read young teen fiction ( ‘Mates, dates’, ‘Angus, thongs..’ kind of things) but didn’t read much at all by the time I got to 16+. I’ll be honest though, those books are the stories I grew up with and the stories are still so familiar and often if I’m bored I’ll go back and read them (nothing weird about a 20 yr old reading books aimed at 10 yr olds….). They make me feel calm and nostalgic in a good way. I liked drawing and painting a lot as well. I didn’t pay much attention to things like parties or popularity, I just liked to have my friends and get on with my own thing and figure out what I wanted to do with my life (I still don’t know though). As a kid I loved all things magical and spooky.

2. You're in you senior year of high school (or whatever equivalent) and you are looking back over the last couple of years. What was your favorite aspect of the schooling experience and why? Favorite subject and why?
I didn’t really love or hate school, I was very middle of the road. My favourite things were the trips (we had things like outdoor adventure trips, science field courses that were overnight residentials but offered things like late night graveyard bat walks). I enjoyed getting ready to start the school year and getting my stationery ready. Things like when the school got decorated for Christmas and everyone was in a relaxed, festive spirit, or when everyone was a bit more chilled and outdoorsy in the summer. I didn’t appreciate it at the time but the routine of school was also great. At university I struggle with the ever changing schedules and everyday being different. My favourite subjects frequently changed. I was good at art and English however I didn’t enjoy the classes and didn’t get along too well with my teachers. I was a good writer and good at drawing however I wasn’t a fan of really getting involved in class discussions. I enjoyed maths classes but mostly because I was dreadful and maths and being in the lower set, my teacher motivated us with cakes and biscuits. She understood teenagers!

3. Your schooling is done and it's time to strike out into the world!! What sort of career do you want to go into and why?
I don’t know! Well I am done with my schooling (in an actual school at least, I’m still in higher education) and I’m pursuing a degree in Biology. I don’t really know if I want to go into science though, it just seemed like a sensible choice as science is well respected and I was pretty good at it. I have considered many possibilities but some I like are: an ecologist so I could work outdoors in an environment I like; a nutritionist because making up meal plans, advising people on diet and so on is something I really enjoy and have experience with; something artsy like an artist, illustrator, animator or interior designer. My biggest talent is my art but it’s not the most stable of career paths so I’m hesitant to really pursue it.

4. A friend is getting married and they put you in charge of the cake. You narrowed it down to two places to make an order. The first is a bakery with whom you got a good relationship with. The other is a well-known cake maker to whom everyone goes to (your friend hints to it as well). Which one do you choose and why?

I’d choose whichever cakemaker makes the highest quality product because ultimately my friend wants a good wedding cake. My relationship with the maker or their popularity is less important than the product itself.

5. You get into an argument with a friend/family member/co-worker. They criticize one of your personality traits. What would most likely be the focus of their critique?
I can be unreliable, say I’ll do something but then won’t do it when the time comes. I can also go a long time without hanging out or doing anything with my friends and I know some people find it annoying how I seemingly just drop in and out. I do still consider them friends though, I just don’t feel the need to spend every second of every day with them.

6. It's New Years! You and your friends are out and about after a party. Being drunk, one of your friends suggests to do something....'questionable' (Nothing serious. I.e, drugs, escort, etc.). What are your thoughts and how do you respond?
I’d think they’re drunk and about to make a mistake. But my friend is an adult and responsible for their own actions. I’d advise them against it and remind them of the consequences but personally I wouldn’t go along with any of the activities. People can’t learn from their mistakes if you always stop them from making them, sometimes you have to discover things for yourself.

7. A new art gallery opens up and your friend wants to go to the grand opening. Both of you analyze all the paintings and sculptures. What about these works warrants the most attention from you? Why?
The works that are the most realistic or truly capture what the artist is seeing. I like artists like Turner where you can really feel the atmosphere but I also admire artists who create hyper-realistic work as it takes a lot of skill and time. I’m less interested in ‘abstract art’ and never really understood why people were into it.

8. Yep, you now have a kid (sex of your choosing)! Years pass and they are now 15 years old. You notice their personality traits are the complete opposite of how you were when at their age. Describe how they are. Describe the possible conflicts that would arise between both of you due to differing temperaments.

They are wild, a party animal, city loving. They’re very outwardly emotionally expressive with a tendency to cry and shout. They live for the here and now with little thought to the consequences and are carefree and reckless. I can imagine the sort of conflict would come from me being safety conscious and them having a ‘what’s the point in living with taking risks?’ life on the edge kind of outlook. They’d like to bring loads of people round regularly and I would hate that because my home is my sanctuary and I don’t like people invading it.

Extra things to add:

* I like to find definition through labels and statements. Things like 'my MBTI type is', 'my favourite season/colour', 'I am an artist/swimmer/scientist', 'the sporty one'...(those are examples not necessarily things that are about me)

*I'm pretty scheduled and time aware and form routines. Like I know what time my parents come home from work so everyday I put the kettle on at 4:25, put the tv on and have tea ready for when my mum comes home so we sit and have tea and biscuits in front of the telly until 6 when my dad arrives home when I start making dinner. Little things I do every day.

*Image is very important to me but I'm not trendy or fashion conscious. I like to use image to influence my mood or presence (like dressing polished or powerful or sporty). My hobbies are aesthetically oriented as well- drawing, painting and photography

*I've never had a proper long term relationship but I don't really crave one. I sometimes think at 20 it's weird that I don't feel the need for any of that. I'd rather be single and happy than single and desperate though. I figure there's no point forcing relationships and people need to learn to be comfortable on their own and know who they are before they commit to a relationship

*I like to be good at things. If I'm not VERY good at something then I don't see the point of doing something. This has held me back quite a bit in life and I working on accepting that it's fine not a be great at something but to just enjoy it anyway (I guess the things I enjoy come from being praised and complimented)

*I like imagining future possibilities but I don't have any long term plans. I'm kind of inbetween the 'choice not chance' mentality but also wanting there to be something I'm just naturally drawn to and great at.
