I am fairly sure of my type by now, but lately I've been wondering if there is another possibility that I am overlooking due to identifying with this type for so long. I have heard on a few occasions that I could be ENFP or INFP, and I wonder if this is more due to my name and cute avatars, or an actual expression of NFP preference.

So...

I've taken the tests about 100 times over the past 3 years.

about 92% of the time I test as INTP

about 6% of the time I test as INTJ

and about 2% of the time I test as something else.

Also, I tested as ISFP when I was 10 years old, but I do not know anything else about this.

This is my most recent functional order:

introverted Thinking (Ti) ******************************************* (43.3)
extraverted Intuiting (Ne) ***************************************** (41.3)
introverted Feeling (Fi) **************************************** (40)
extraverted Thinking (Te) ************************************ (36.4)
introverted Intuiting (Ni) ************************* (26)
introverted Sensing (Si) ******************** (20.8)
extraverted Sensing (Se) ******************** (20)
extraverted Feeling (Fe) ************ (12.4)

I think I am equal parts enneagram 4 and 5. I am obsessed with both individuality and competence. Kind of an alien analyzing the earth...
But 5w4 makes sense in that I am 7-like during stress and 8-like while strong.

Key Parts of the INTP description that I fit:
-seeking clarity in everything
-driven to build knowledge
-"absent-minded professor"
-approaching problems with enthusiasm and skepticism
-love of new ideas
-lives inside own mind
-very little value on tradition
-unconventional thought patterns

Key parts I don't fit:
-extremely bright
-problems with dressing
-unwillingness to explain things in an understandable way

Key parts of the INFP description that I fit:
-focused on making the world a better place
-idealist
-interested in understanding people
-fighting for causes
-perfectionism
-awkward with verbal expression

Key parts I don't fit:
-placing little importance on who is right and who is wrong
-not liking to deal with hard facts and logic
-disbelief in impersonal judgement

Key parts of the ENTP description that I fit:
-absorbing ideas
-resourceful
-enthusiasm for possibilities everywhere
-never finishing what is started
-love to debate issues

Key parts I don't fit:
-understanding things quickly
-excellence at conversations
-not noticing human element in decision making

Key parts of the INTJ description that I fit:
-value on competence
-driven to come to conclusions
-value on systems
-driven to explain their ideas
-ambitious
-self-confident
-remain in background until need to take the lead

Key parts I don't fit:
-quick to understand new ideas
-natural leader
-not following idea as far as possible
-not having problems with meeting goals

Key parts of the ISTP description that I fit:
-drive to understand how things work
-liking to take things apart
-adventuresome spirit
-disbelief in rules
-firm belief in equity and fairness
-overwhelmed with emotions when stressed and prone to outburts
-not wanting commitments

Key parts I don't fit:
-disinterest in theories without application
-fearlessness
-focus on the practical
-quick decisions
-good at follow through

I'm all sorts of weird stuff, but am I really so clearly more INTP than the rest, or should I consider another type/types more seriously? I can answer questions and add more info.

Thanks in advance :hi:

Judging from your results and other information, I'd say probably INTP, with xNFP being the most likely beyond that due to your funtions.

Also you mentioned how becuase of your cute name and avatar that you might be an NFP, and although I don't entirely disagree with that idea, is it possible that you just choose those specific avatar and name because your female (assuming your are)?

NP is fairly certain. Ne is drastically superior to your other information gathering functions. my thoughts from most likely to least likely are:
1) INTP
2) ENTP
3) INFP
4) ENFP

About the name and avatar, that is part of it.

Some reasons for being LunaLuminosity:
-sounds kind of like a scientific name for moonlight
-that Luna from Harry Potter is awesome, and I am like her in voice and manner, though I think she is more NF than me.... so I like simply being called Luna so that it's like a real name but without revealing my real name
-I don't want to confuse people by changing my name
-I don't want to answer questions all the time about whether I'm female or not =P (I am)

The avatar... I usually identify as cats because they are cool, and I take a long time to think about stuff. So thinker kitty is pretty much me, lol

Thanks for the feedback and keeping this alive, Elf and Savage.

(And only two votes? That's just unacceptable... it's only two clicks)

Should I start giving out free cupcakes to those who post or vote here?

Would that skew the resulting posts to the NF side?

Well choosing Luna as the scientific name for moon might signify NT? Actually I'm not that sure on my original idea, as I'm a guy and I like using really cute avatars myself, but I'm also an NF too...

Thanks for the feedback and keeping this alive, Elf and Savage.

 sure thing, if one needs to be typed then Savage Brain will always be there!

I agree, more people need to be active in this part of the forum.

Having met you in person, I am fairly certain of the Introversion and some what certain of the NT ism.

I suppose you could be an INTJ, but you don't seem directive enough...so I will say probably an INTP.

So far, Savage Brain, Elfboy, Ygolo, and the other anonymous two who voted in my poll get a cupcake. But there are still more for the taking...

well, first off, your cognitive function results are ridiculously high
looking at your descriptions again, you are looking more and more like an INFP or (less likely) ENFP. all of the traits you shared with NTPs are correlated much more with N than T. also
-focused on making the world a better place
-idealist
-interested in understanding people
-fighting for causes
-perfectionism
-awkward with verbal expression
you don't get much more INFP than this

Key parts I don't fit:
-placing little importance on who is right and who is wrong
-not liking to deal with hard facts and logic
-disbelief in impersonal judgement
actually several INFPs and ENFPs don't fit these traits either. NFPs are usually pretty rational just like NTs, the difference is that we tend to be more subjective and less inclined to need proof for everything. for instance, NFPs frequently research something to prove a point and end up thinking "I already knew this, why did I waste my time with that?" NTs on the other hand will likely think something more along the lines of "Yes! I have solid evidence now!"

a few questions that might help clarify:
1) what do you like to do in your free time?
2) when you are making a casual decision that will yield little consequence either way (such as what shirt to buy) are you more calculating or do you simply just say "I like this one better, I'm getting it"
3) do you feel the need to have sustantial empirical evidence or are you content understanding something and making a decision based on that?

YAY Cupcakes!

Anyway, I think it's somewhat safe to say that you Luna, are definitely an NP, probably INxP, so the key point is seeing whether you use Fi or Ti more. Elfboy's questions above should reveal that.

I am no expert on MBTI but I am going to guess, after re-reading the descriptions of everything again on multiple sites, and thinking over what I have learned of you in the years we have been friends... I am leaning more towards believing you to be INFP, but its fairly close between that and INTP... I'll chat with you later about my specific reasoning if you'd like me to <3

1) what do you like to do in your free time?

Is this what would I like to do in my free time or what I do in my free time that I actually like?

Stuff I do in my free time that I like:
eating
drinking coffee
singing
video games (platformers and ddr)
Studying Japan and anime
other wikipedia'ing
researching things on intelligence, IQ, and learning differences
random facebook stuff
and also random causes
reading and posting on here
typology (obviously)
online shopping
sudoku
listening to technodance-ish and hip hop instrumental music
watching a lot of Jeopardy, Mythbusters, and stuff dealing with outer space or traveling
wandering around the library

Stuff I like to do in my free time but do not do enough:
inventing stuff
writing scifi-like stories
drawing
reading
more hardcore brain teasers
hardcore research on cognition theories
travelling/exploring the world
cosplaying
wandering bookstores
self-teaching of physics and engineering basics
standing behind causes more/saving the universe
hiking
watching the stars

I'm probably still missing a bunch of stuff, but yeah...

2) when you are making a casual decision that will yield little consequence either way (such as what shirt to buy) are you more calculating or do you simply just say "I like this one better, I'm getting it"

I think my approach is pretty typical with casual situations such as those.

Like, with choosing one shirt over another, I take into account price, comfort, fit, flatteriness, awesomeness, and how much I would use it.

So perhaps somewhere in between...

If all else about the calcuations is about equal, I'll go with what I like.

3) do you feel the need to have sustantial empirical evidence or are you content understanding something and making a decision based on that?

It really depends on what we're talking about here.

There are the types of decisions that are not really that important, or where empirical evidence just doesn't apply.

Like, until every bit of my brain can be scanned, there is no empirical evidence on my type, but MBTI is far from scientific, it's about my preference.

I would always like to have substantial empirical evidence on things that are more of a factual nature, but it is very difficult to get. I cannot do experiments on everything that is in the textbooks in my lifetime, so I am satisfied with analyzing the facts given and fitting them into a framework.

I am both surprised and unsurprised at the general INxP consensus.

I test as INTx often, but I have seen lately that it is really the Ti and Fi that are in an epic dual.

And I put S as a possibility too because of the things said on here about most of the intuitives really being sensors. But even so, it seems that I'm one of the real Ns here =P

I still think I am preferring T over F, but that the F side is pretty strong and I should pay attention to that.

As I've sort of said, I'm pretty obsessed with analysis, definitons, being concise, and with my capabilities at doing such. And I am also obsessed with being weird, figuring out what I want, and saving the world.

I know I do not want to have an X in my type. I want a clear definition ;)

But I am looking for something that can fit into those four spaces under my location. AWSM might work but I am already an 'awesome member.' So am I clearly the F type of awesome of the T type?

Also I was looking around at the other members cogntive function results and found it interesting that it was common for self-identified INTPs to have Ti and Fi within 10 points of each other, but there were virtually no self-identified INFPs with Fi and Ti within 10 points.

That "long scientific personality test" that OkCupid has gave me this result this time:
INTP - the Architect
18% I to E
26% N to S
62% F to T
74% J to P

I hope I can still get some more feedback even with the princess cupcake gone...

on a more shallow note, some of your posting habits on TypeC, such as "yay! you all get cupcakes!" are F as hell. also
- studying anime and japan
- cosplaying, and especially
- singing
all indicate strong Fi preference to me. also, as a whole, it's seems to me that NFs with strong Thinking are more prevelant than NTs with strong Feeling.
PS: if you really are INFP (which I am betting on) it's likely that you actually use Ne to do a lot of the things that are frequently attributed to Ti in cognitive function tests

Ts aren't allowed to like cupcakes?

I can see the cosplay/Fi link. I never doubted strong Fi.
I'm not sure where the singing link is, except that may be an uncommon interest for INTPs.
Also Anime/Japanophilia are pretty common among the Ts on this forum. A lot of the anime is very stereotypically F but I tend to stay away from those ones.
You didn't find anything that indicated strong Ti?
