Why can't we be more French?

I'll tell you why we can't be more French - it was because La Perouse was a couple of hours late.

If only Jean-Francois de la Perouse had sailed into Botany Bay a few hours earlier, we would have been Australie rather than Australia. What a difference one letter makes.

Rather than being rough, crude and vulgar Australians, but for a few hours, we could have been sophisticated, elegant, and above all, rational French in the Pacific, indeed French from the Indian Ocean to the Pacific, French from Antarctica almost to the equator. We see ourselves as exiles from la belle France, indeed, I myself, try to keep the tricoleur flying as your very own street ambassador, your boulevardier in the antipodean sunshine, your own flâneur dreaming of the streets of Paris.

    Allo

    accueil?

I don't know, sup? ca va?

Thank you google translate, this was easier than I thought:
en anglais accueil et de bienvenue sont les mêmes.

I literally just had to type out:
in english, welcome and welcome are the same.
and google did the rest for me.
