    Default De-lurking now...

I've been exploring this forum for the past few weeks and have found it quite fascinating! So I've decided to join in all of the [virtual] chatter...and say hi.

The weather down in Australia, on the other hand, has been crazy. Hot, humid days on end in Sydney, and flooding up in Queensland

The worst mistake people make in political arguments is assuming that the other side is not trying to do the right thing. This simple oversight makes productive conversation nearly impossible.

    Post FYI--my background

    More details:
I was always interested in astronomy...ever since my brother bought a book about it. My aunt, though, mistakenly interpreted the SOHO pictures for the end of the world. I felt a mix of: :steam: and at the time. So much for taking things too literally...I subsequently got me-self into hot water when I decided to read Newton's great work "The Mathematical Principles of Natural Philosophy" in high school, against my other desires to not do it, because I had then a rather naive picture of what was needed to understand physics. This included maths, which I was good at, until university. I since stopped taking it seriously, majoring in chemistry instead. For this detour: Thanks a lot, both to my maths teacher who requested from us an essay about the life of a mathematician, which I had no choice in...and to Newton, indirectly, for the unnecessary dense prose [though I must admit, I did like the presentation of his later work on optics].

I have had a rather mixed bag regarding friendships: during high school, I used to argue a lot with my closest friend that I wondered whether we were friends to begin with . I was jealous of her well-roundedness, and she was jealous in my intellectual abilities, so there

'Tis much better to do a little with certainty, & leave the rest for others that come after you, than to explain all things by conjecture without making sure of any thing.”—Statement from unpublished notes for the Preface to the Opticks (1704) by Newton.

What do you think about me? And for the darker side, here.
