    Talking Writer, Teacher, INFP...

As the title says, I'm a writer, a teacher, and a massive introvert; the last of which confuses a lot of people because I come across as so gregarious, especially when I'm teaching. Thing is, introversion, as far as I can tell, has to do with the energy dynamic of social interaction. Introverts find social interactions draining and solitude recharging whereas most extroverts I know have an inverse dynamic. So while I may come across as a lively performer in my teaching style, a ham, a friendly dude, I am slowly siphoning off my reserves so that at the end of the day, I just want to jump on my bike and ride out to the bay, with nothing but myself, the trail, and the wind at my back.

    Welcome to the forum!

I know what you mean. I work with people too. I need my alone time at the end of the day as well to save my mental health.

    I understand, writer-person.
I love to play music, and an audience is even better, but I definitely am an introvert, and I won't go to the after-party without someone to grease the social wheels for me. Just shy, I guess...(sniff)

I envy your strong will. I am a major introvert myself, and I am not at ease with possible exposure, attention, confrontation, or humiliation. I shun social adherences--

For how long can you stay active in such environments without feeling the need to retreat? And have you ever had to retreat?

I am a writer as well (ENFP). How does INFP affect your writing? Do you have hang-ups finishing writing projects, as I do?

^I don't know if being an INFP has given me hangups about finishing projects, but I've been afflicted with a kind of irrational perfectionism that's manifested as writer's block. I have loads of ideas, but have found myself increasingly unhappy with my execution. I have found being an INFP helps when it comes to understanding others, which then in turn allows me to create vivid, well-rounded characters who all have their individual wants and needs, and the drama when those wants and needs conflict with those of others. It also helps when I've hit my writing groove (that activation energy needed for sustained writing after the inertia of getting started), because it means I can go for the hours at a time necessary to get the work done.

What are you currently working on?

I'm a social introvert. So is my wife who's an INTJ. Since we're both social, we love holding dinner parties and having guest. But then we need an hour or so to unwind and recharge afterward.
