Default Did the world need another INFP?

Hey everyone. I've been lurking this board for a few weeks and finally decided to stop creeping. I've been interested in MBTI for about ten years now. When I was younger I used to be pretty uncertain about whether I was ENFP or INFP, but seeing as introversion has become my most dominant trait in recent years I guess that debate's finally settled.

So yeah. INFP in business school. That's me. As google informs me, that's slightly odd:

But oh well. What can you do?

    Glad to be here!

Well hi there! Glad you decided to stop lurking. Me, I'm an INFJ in the military XD Talk about out of me element a bit.

I love when Google thinks it has a better idea about what you're looking for than you do. It often comes up with such funny alternatives!

    Welcome to the forums.

Hah, well it's been a challenge. My undergrad school was much more geared to introverts so I felt at ease there. Conversely, in my business school I was initially taken aback at all the unwritten rules of socializing that seem to exist; it's not enough to show up to class, pay attention and do your work well. It seems to be considered preferable to be available 24/7 to communication, to make a lot of appearances at weekend parties (I feel like this is where 80% of networking happens), and to be very talkative and outgoing, always trying to push your ideas to the forthright. Since approximately 0 of those things come naturally to me, the past year has been something of a struggle. INFP style flexibility of opinion sometimes comes across as my being lazy in all the group work I have to do.

Still, there's a lot I enjoy or, at the very least, find worthwhile. I'm learning a lot and gaining some foundation for the practical knowledge that doesn't always come naturally to me.

Networking 24/7 sounds tiring if not tiresome. Do you get the impression the budding businesspeople will calm down after a while?

Good for you for developing your weaknesses. Expanding your comfort zone is always worthwhile. I'd be wary of compromising too much "enjoy" for "worthwhile" but isn't that the balance we all strive for?

Hah, yeah that has been the question for the past year. For a couple months I was pretty damn unhappy because I was compromising a bit too much. After a while, though, I've become a bit better at being involved in social things while still maintaining space/my basic personality type. Re-discovering MBTI types has been pretty helpful with that actually!

    Hi there!!!

Another INFP here! Wow you are in business school! I'm sure you'll do well there, no matter what Google says. As long as you believe in yourself. Who says business is only for extroverts? I'm sure you will bring new INFP perspectives into the business world.
