TY **curtsies deeply** as I just mentioned on another thread where INTPs were described as misanthropic, I must have been living a lie for all of this time

I prefer to think of us as direct rather than impolite - I am disinclined to pad things out unless someone is very fragile. Now boredom I can understand!! My greatest fear in life

That's not a very polite thing to say to all other INTP's.

    I was thinking the same.
    That sure got our attention!

And welcome, Reflection. My best friend is an INTJ, as well, and I'm an INTP.
    How ironic!
What is normal to one, is incomprehensible to another.

I think INTPs in general get on very well with INTJs. We complement each other with our differing P's and T's, and we have someone who understands us while not being exactly the same. INTJs are fun!

And thank you all! I certainly feel welcome now.

I thought you NTs preferred honesty and directness over polite behavior?

We believe being honest is the only polite way of doing things, as the alternative is manipulation/deceit.

Not seeing honesty as politeness, feels deceitful to us. But then again, you may honestly believe that from your perspective. Doesn't really work that way though with perspectives. We sample what is honest and what is not from our own perspectives.

Otherwise we'd have to accept serial killers who honestly just love to kill, because they are just being polite, but luckily it doesn't work that way!

Funny thing about honesty and perspectives, could write a book about it and still not be done with the topic. :/

I really have to agree; it depends on the perspective. We perceive honesty as politeness, and I have to say even if it isn't exactly polite, I'd rather be honest than lie about something. Which is why I often come across as a bit callous.

The worst mistake people make in political arguments is assuming that the other side is not trying to do the right thing. This simple oversight makes productive conversation nearly impossible.
