    Hello. Welcome to the forum.

Turkey is interesting to me... But I apologise. You probably have your nationality brought up way too often on American sites.
    Go to sleep, iguana.

Well... that's all I know about it really. What's the main theme you see in your culture today, and what interests you most about it's history? Has it changed much since the Ottoman days?

Thank you for the heaps of welcoming, people!

It is mostly a non-issue for me, as I am always rather detached when it comes to negative online exchanges - though it is true that such perceptual stigmas associated with different nationalities exist.

Well... that's all I know about it really. What's the main theme you see in your culture today, and what interests you most about it's history? Has it changed much since the Ottoman days?
Well, the Ottomans ruled a fairly totalitarian empire with many kinds of people and minorities within it - who eventually helped hasten the disintegration, of course. The modern-day Turkey is a democratic, constitutional republic born of the Turkish resistance groups active during WWI (they fought the War of Independence against the Allies and were victorious - and they were rogues, in a way, as the Ottoman government was much more interested in simply surrendering). That is the greatest difference and it's why the two nations, past a historical viewpoint, aren't very comparable. And mind you, that history is very interesting, but it wouldn't be accurate at all to think of the Ottomans when you hear about Turkey.

As for the main theme I see today - I must say that there isn't just one theme but many themes interwined with each other. And to be sure, I would need to organize my thoughts about them before I even start rattling my bone-box. :)

    Thanks for the questions, athenian!
    Not really.

Welcome, Nadir! I have signed up at INFPg, however I have yet to really look at the threads and introduce myself. One day, when I have time, I'll check into it!
