    Same to you.

That's one unsettling avatar you've got there.
The smiley face really tips it over the edge!

    Welcome!

Why did you choose to study sociology rather than social psychology?

    Hello.

I don't know what social psychology is about. Is it to do with group interactions or something like that?

I am interested in improving people's health, on a macro level. I think people tend to associate healthcare as belonging fully the 'medical' field, so they overlook things such as warm housing, clean water and good hygiene practices. But those things are really important, as they can prevent illness in the first place, and reduce the amount of medical intervention required.

So... I would eventually like to carry out social research, find out people's experiences of health and illness, and figure out what things can help people live healthy lives. I'd ideally like to use that information to make government policy recommendations. And studying Sociology is giving me a good grounding to be able to do that.

(Having said that, I don't really know where it's going to take me...)

Very interesting application of sociology--sort of a public health aspect. That's great. My career sometimes involves writing software for public health related things.

Social psychology is studying the thoughts and feelings of individuals in social situations. Related to your interest, it would focus on how one could persuade people to purify their water before drinking it, or how to convince them to modify their cultural practices to be healthier.

Yes, public health. Writing software sounds tricky.

Social psychology seems like it could be interesting.

Welcome, fellow INFJ. I'm new to the forum as well. I found the above statements very familiar I don't like backing up cars (more out of fear than inability), have to write in order to do math, currently have bloody knees from a fall, and am extremely proud that I gave myself 9 hours of sleep last night.
