Default INTJ lurker finally saying hi...

    Hi everyone!

I've been a member here for six months, and I've decided to finally post something. It's not exactly clear-cut what the right "hi" would be, but I suspect that almost anything that doesn't involve well F--- YOU ALL would be considered acceptable

I'm a 26 year old male, and quite a cookie-cutter INTJ. When I came across an MBTI description of my type (quite by chance), what struck me was less that it described me really well, but that nothing about it didn't hold true. This makes sense: (I)95% (N)100% (T)85% (J)80% - Ni>Te>Fi=Se=Ti>Ne>Fe>Si. I remember reading through a "You know you're an INTJ" thread, and laughing all the way through because it was all so true...

That was the start, but what really captured my imagination was the "Let's talk about mind-mates..." thread on intpcentral. Reading through all those pages was awesome: I've never had a true mindmate, but I have had a soul-mate experience (NFs: ); the idea of a mind-mate was mind-blowing.

Bouncing around the topic, I ended up registering here to read a thread... and it's been a lot of fun to carry on reading ever since

MBTI has had a fairly profound impact on my life. It let me finally get understanding and closure over an ISTJ (she's even an accountant - lol) in my life, understand and see how my parents (Mom - ISFJ, Dad - ESFJ) actually really love me (a lot) , appreciate people far more, and become more extraverted - yay Ne and Fe: that you can learn and practice personality functions has been a very pleasant discovery.

Since then, I've had interesting experiences with Te, Ne and Fe, (and appreciate that Si has real value) but more on that later

It's really nice to finally meet you all!

Thank you . (I never used to understand why people changed theirs, but you're looking at my 2nd...)

    Hi,

I've been reading the entries on this site for the last few days at work. It's been pretty quiet.
I'm just so fascinated that you all know so much about the MBTI types. I'm a pretty young 42 and I first read about temperaments when I was 18 and misdiagnosed myself as an ENFJ. I wanted, and still do, to be a J.
I am an ENFP married to an INFJ. This can be great, and it can be very frustrating at the same time. We 'get' each other but have quite a few battles over the E/I and the P/J. I think that society is geared toward J's.
LinearOrbit, I know what you mean when you say that you were pretty blown away by the accuracy of the MBTI types. But I'm a bit surprised, because being an ENFP, I share this with everyone I know and all the NTJ/P's I've met invariably disagree with being pigeon-holed and don't like it much.
I'm glad you found it rewarding because there is nothing like understanding the dynamics of what is actually going on behind all the observable posturing that goes along with social interaction.

    Hi Susenfp!

I happen to know an ENFP married to an ENFJ, and he says that having things set in stone all the time can be a little suffocating, so my sympathies!

I'm usually very sceptical about these kinds of things (see: Forer effect), but it's tough to argue with something that describes the parts of me that I really thought no one knew about. I'd tried describing Ni to friends before I knew about MBTI, and the results weren't pretty. (It doesn't help that I anthropomorphized it :rolli

MBTI is great too because it provides a nice vocabulary. Earlier on this year, I was concussed in a car-accident. My Ni wasn't fazed, but I still felt dead inside - my Te was offline for a few days - and it was useful to be able to label what had happened. (Besides, "Se-fail" sounds nicer than "clumsy"!)
