Thread: Hi all

    Default Hi all

Don't really know what to say and where to begin..

Personally, I would call myself more "newb" than "n00b" but oh well..

I'm 17 and I'm from France (sorry Grammar Nazis, I think I'm going to give you a lot of work.. ).
I've scored as INTP 1 year ago. I have to say I'm still doubtful about it but I never score as another type.
So you got it, one of the reason I'm here is to discover and understand things that are pretty new to me. And obviously, I'm hoping to improve my english.

I've also taken an enneagram test which told me I was a 5w4.

I love music and videogames, and I think that's all.
I don't think I'm gonna post a lot but I'm gonna read a lot for sure.

You don't seem to be that crazy. I'm not really here to stay away from people anyway.

Bonjour, I am just taking a course in french and I learned today they use to say "Qu'est-ce?", if they want to say a simple word like "what?".

You have to teach me what "What the fuck" means

    Welcome
Aw, you're terrible. I think a private lesson will do.

Did they really told you "What?" = "Qu'est-ce?" ?

"What" means "que", we can also use it for "quoi".
See ? In a sentence like "I am what I am", we would say "Je suis ce que je suis". "What are you doing?" = "Que fais-tu ?" (if you really wanna use "qu'est-ce" you can say "Qu'est-ce que tu fais?" but I feel like the first one sounds better).

In a more familiar way, when you are surprised/didn't understand, just say "Quoi?". Never say "Qu'est-ce?" for this kind of event, people will look at you strangely.
You can also use "quoi" when you haven't heard something, but I'd say this is even more familiar.

So let's get back to "What the fuck", don't worry, french people know what it is.
We just don't have anything for this kind of expression, I'd say we just add "putain", most of the time.

Danke, ich kann nicht Deutsch sprechen so gut, dass die Lehrern sehr inkompetenten sind.
