Whenever I join an online forum such as this, I feel compelled to start with the introduction thread but spend way too much time trying to figure out how the eff to manage it.
I could say "I'm Laurie and I'm 31" but that's just boring and reveals nothing about my character as a human being.
I could say "I'm an INFJ", which might reveal a little bit more about my character but only within the confines of the various type-indicator descriptions. If I left it at that, it might lead to assumptions that may or may not be accurate in terms of who I am.
I could say "I love books, music, movies, and art" but then you would just say "Duh" and I can't have that.
I could say "I think way too much and can be a bit of a control freak at times" but you've probably already figured that out.
I could say "I totally killed off the chainsaw wielding zombie in Resident Evil 4 with three shots to the head on the first try" but at this point, everyone and their grandmother has done that. Not to mention it would be needlessly boastful.
I could say "I like Pez" but provocative, inflammatory statements like that have no place in an introduction.
So I guess I'll just say "Hi, how are you? Looking forward to posting and sharing here".
