I read ennegram years ago and discovered that I was an epicure, a 7. I just read Please Understand me and I'm conflicted. The test I took indicated that I was a guardian but the description of the guardian doesn't fit me at all. When I read the chapter on the idealist it was a very accurate description of my interests, orientation and intellect. I took the test a second time, reversing myself on certain questions, but I was still a guardian. What do you make of it?

    Great thread title!

I don't know enough about you yet to give you any advice on the type, other than to just keep reading, and gleam from different sources,

Best-Fit Type : Exploring the Multiple Models of Personality Type is a good site for type descriptions. Unfortunately, the other site that I highly recommended for people to read doesn't seem to exist anymore.

    Oh well, anyway, welcome!

    Welcome to the forums.

As for your question, MBTI is rather limited for people who don't quite fit their specific type (i.e. almost everyone). Personally, I believe that anyone can act like any type (which is what the tests seem to use for labeling people), but have their "inner selves" resonate more clearly with something completely different. With me, for example, I relate with the INFP description most, but there are a few things in the ISFJ profile that describe me better. Sometimes the tests are just inaccurate.

    Multiple possibilities:
You actually are a Guardian, but with a misunderstanding that leads you to believe you're an idealist.
You're an idealist, with a misunderstanding that makes you test as a Guardian.
    The test is crap.
    You're something else entirely.
The more information you supply, the more we can help you determine your type.

    Anyway, welcome to the forums.

Clark, I rather like the personality tests on Personality100: PhD-certified Personality Test as I took one recently.

It is like $30 BUT you get a 94 page report that gives you very detailed feedback on how you score on each personality trait, in addition to mode of attachment, birth order, and how you compare to the rest of the population (by sex).

I'm an Ennegram 7 too! If you are anything like me there is no way in hell you are a Guardian!

    Welcome!

Don't worry about tests results in general. The best way to figure out your type is a combination of research and introspection.

That perhaps you're an NFJ with a low N, or an SFJ with a low S
