Check out the webside "Political Compass" for a discussion of Left vs. Right (economic systems) and Authoritarian vs Libertarian (social systems). There is a test that will place you on a set of Cartesian coordinates according to your own preferences. As examples, our current president is a rightist/authoritarian, Hitler was a centrist/authoritarian and Stalin was a leftist/authoritarian; their respective degrees of authoritarinanism differed a bit though. I'm in the same bin with Ghandi and a few others.

Many welcomes Pika!! Nice mention of political compass haha, I'm already a fan.

My gosh that is a beautiful place for hiking, my friends just got back from a cross country trip there and I was left drooling in pure envy. Can I ask what you studied/what you most enjoyed about studying?

I was an ecologist specializing in the study of forest productivity. A lot of my work involved biometry and applied statistics, chemistry and micro-meteorology. I spent a lot of time studying and learning these topics as well as considerable biology.

I consider myself to be a lifelong student and thus just enjoy learning things; almost any subject will do in a pinch. For me, the process of study and accumulation of new knowledge is one of the most enjoyable activities of which I know. Knowledge is its own reward.

I did the test. Is the enemy of your enemy your friend? Of course not. Thanks for the tip. A good test.

    Social Libertarian/Authoritarian -7.33

So we have only Nelson and Dalai in our camp. If you forget Mugabe and his crony the Pope, all the others are in the exact opposite camp. A damned shame.
