I know fragments of both. With me I suffer from the problem of being interested in languages, yet unable to learn in more conventional ways. I tend to be slower than most people at first, but once I finally understand it I tend to outpace most other people.

Plus also I learn best through constant immersion. That's very difficult to achieve where I live.

Constant immersion is the best way to learn. But you also picked the languages that are quite a challenge to learn I dunno how many languages you have knowledge of, but I've studied both germanic, roman and slavic languages, and germanic and roman languages are significantly easier to learn for me as my own maternal language is germanic and european. Heck, I've studied Russian for over 5 years and I still feel like I suck at it (I did four years of college and 1 year of living in Russia). And I was glad I learned Latin before attempthing Russian.

I spoke English at the age of 10 because of Tv. Russian, although I used the same trick when i lived there, just isn't as easy to absorb I salute you for jumping right in *grin*
It is a very fascinating and rich language though, so definitely worth the trouble.

Hey Nighthawk, tnx for the welcome

My interest in Russian and other Slavic languages stems from my ethnic heritage, which I'm very proud of.

Slavic and Romance languages are my interest largely. French, Spanish, and of course Latin are among my to-learn list; and I know fragments of these languages as well.

Of course a common problem I have is finding the time and energy to study this stuff, especially since I do heavy-duty blue collar work for a living. Not to mention balance it with the myriad of interests in other areas.

I can't count how many times I just feel so mentally overwhelmed by this shit.
