[SJ] SJ's and common ailments

My ESxJ grandmother has a whole HOST of ailments that would be greatly alleviated with treatment. She refuses though to see a doctor and, the few times she's consented to see one, she changes her mind as soon as my mother or one of her siblings goes to her place to take her to the doctor (one flew a few thousand kms once only to find she'd changed her mind. Another one wanted to take her to another country for specialised treatment and she agreed and as soon as passport was prepared which was a lengthy process, she changed her mind. She does this regularly). She's a very stoic woman but I can't help but feel that, on some level, she is punishing herself and she enjoys having her children fuss over her all the time (actually, I'm absolutely sure about the latter).

My mother and her siblings call and visit her very regularly so I'm a little confused about why she would do this.
