Title says it all really! What do the INTPs here (or the INTPs related to posters here ;)) do for a living? I'm currently in the process of taking a year out from my college course to work and figure out what I want to do. I've taken more career aptitude tests online than I can count and they're all useless! I might be going to a career adviser soon though. I'm interested to see what people with my personality type have ended up with.

Something along the following lines would be of great interest to me! Other types feel free to chime in if you wish :)

- Running a relatively small family business in which I do a lot of front end work, such as drive taxi's, busses(coaches), planning, administration, software development and work on potential new revenue ideas.
- My ultimate dreamjob would be doing nothing but the things I want to do at that time.
- Living in a vegestative state while conscious about it.

Probably therapist/shrink; research psychologist; author; musician; or criminologist.

I am currently between high school and college, which starts in August. I referee soccer for my spending cash.

I would love to be a children's author, an adult author, and a composer for movie scores, all at the same time.

I would really hate being a professional clown. Any of the positions on The Office would be terrible as well.

What do you currently do?

I'm a librarian. I work an urban public library in the field of reference services. I like the mental aspects of the job. Sometimes I get stressed by the demands the library users place on me.

What's your dream job?

I honestly don't know. The things I enjoy doing the most don't translate easily to a money making career. Who's going to pay me to post on forums, read, or play games all day?

I suppose if I had to pick, maybe something computer related. A librarian would work too but I'd transfer into a position where I wasn't required to deal with the public so much.

What's your worst nightmare?

Lack of mental stimulation. Factory type jobs. Doing the exact same thing repeatedly for hours on end.

On the other hand, I don't like constant change either. I need a good balance been variety and stability.

Having to work with toxic people. It sounds F, but I am one of those who needs to have harmony in my work environment to be most effective.

Constant interruptions.

A constant go-go-go environment that doesn't allow for adequate reflection time and emphasizes getting the product out to the point of compromising quality.

Being constantly watched and micromanaged.

Lack of clear expectations. One time I got a poor performance review that could have been easily avoided had the expectations been more spelled out.

Employees being treated unfairly. Favoritism.

Not knowing the reasons why for things.

Lack of opportunities for personal growth and development.

Jobs requiring a heavy degree of physical exertion to the point of discomfort or compromising my health.

What do you currently do?

I work in accounting - at a moderate level of expertise, not the highest up but about halfway; I do much of the daily leg work and playing with numbers (<3), but also get to do the big-picture, flowchart driven theoretical work in relation to internal processes.

What's your dream job?

Piloting. It's been my dream for... as long as I can remember seeing the ground from an airplane, which would've been when I was less than three years old. Also, linguist and interpreter/translator.

What's your worst nightmare?

Being a manager. *shudder*

Dream is to get an office position, especially in something like Operations Planning. But that's harder to do than I realized.
Worst nightmare is messing up (which is so easy to do, in so many places).

I've been doing some work for the Canadian census for the past month or so, doing "follow-up" with people who haven't completed it. I've actually liked it at times, and hated it at other times. We have moved on to a longer, optional part of it, so it's become more like a salesperson job now, trying to persuade who've already done the mandatory part to do the longer, optional part. I am not well-suited to that. I can handle the odd irritable person, but a string of irritable people I need to "sell" something to really stresses me out. I can't take more than an hour of it. I just gave notice that I'm quitting today.

Yeah, telemarketing sort of work has to be my worst nightmare.

I don't regret taking the job, as it's been enjoyable at times and I've had some good experiences with people and even gained some confidence in myself, but I couldn't do something like that as a permanent full-time thing.

As for my "dream job", I don't dream about jobs.

I get it! It's a prostitution joke!
