Emotion is an undercurrent to thought and has a tendency to direct it. There is a feedback loop where thought can direct emotion by substituting for sensory input, but i feel that emotion is the origination.

Emotion preceeding thought also makes evolutionary development sense. Cognitive functions developed later sitting on emotional survival responses as a base.*
