    Default An impressive INTJ

    http://www.nytimes.com/2006/08/27/we...27johnson.html

Grigory Perelman, the man who solved the Poincare Conjecture, deeply impresses me. His rejection of the Fields Medal, the most prestigious honor in mathematics, suggests the height of what an INTJ's well-developed Fi looks like. It wasn't about him, the discoverer; rather, the important part was the discovery itself. He took full satisfaction in simply knowing that it was right.

Do you have some links to the proof?

Do you think that your feelings about this man and his rejection of this award may someday lead you to reject a prestigious award in a similar fashion (should you ever do something of great note)?

John Lott's talks and seminar notes

Here are some commentaries on the proof. Really interesting stuff. What strikes me at first is the realization that our brains do some incredibly complex mathematics almost constantly, without any conscious understanding of how it works. The second thing is I wonder how this cognitive awareness translates across generations: does the brain learn these deep, complex forms of math simply through stimulus and response, or is there actual mathematic knowledge locked within the genetic code?

A lot of INTJ's are impressive; namely the ones involved in projects for the betterment of humanity.
"Of course we spent our money in the good times. That's what you're supposed to do in good times! You can't save money in the good times. Then they wouldn't be good times, they'd be 'preparation for the bad times' times."

"Every country in the world owes money. Everyone. So heere's what I dont get: who do they all owe it to, and why don't we just kill the bastard and relax?"

    -Tommy Tiernan, Irish comedian.
