Christmas/Holiday time sucks because ___________________.

I say Christmas time sucks because I'm forced to socialize with people that don't give a damn about me the other 365 days of the year.

Also, the Holidays suck because my diet that I've worked so hard on goes out the window. ALL THAT TREADMILL TIME FOR NAUGHT!

The whole getting/buying presents thing. I really wish my family would realize this is a kid holiday and leave it at that.

I wouldn't mind if I could just buy gifts for who I want to, but I resent having to buy someone a gift cause they buy me a gift. And usually that person is a sucky giver (like a 3 packet of car freshener, no joke!) and I pride myself on my great gift giving so I end up getting pissy about it. Not that I bought them a gift but they didn't put the least bit of thought into it just to give me something so I will give them something. And I'm looking at all my siblings on this one! :steam: Stupid family politics.

Oh and I hate this time of year cause this is when all the crazy comes out. Fighting over who is hosting what. What time we are supposed to show up somewhere. Yadda yadda yadda

What? Christmas is great.

I agree. I love the cheery atmosphere building up to the event, as well as the commercial side. I went to the local market today, and they had a mulled wine and roasted chestnuts stand. Lovely for a cold day.

If there's one thing I hate about Christmas is the anticlimax on the day itself. The build up of anxiety, festive cheer and over-indulgence is suddenly released like a white-head being squashed. Show's over, same time next year. Booo.

Its like mass hysteria for a month. Everyone gives $ to the homeless. You do a secret Santa at work. Volunteer to help out and give present to homeless kids. Get together with family act all nice, sign horrible songs that you've sung a million times, watch christmas shows a hundred times.

Then its all over. We go back to "fuck everyone else." Its one big pain in my ass.

I don't remember it being a leap year... ;)

Christmas time sucks because my grandmother has a way of sulking that makes me feel guilty for yet again not having the money or vaccation time to visit family.

Christmas time sucks because the radio plays "Jingle Bell Rock" three times every hour, which is 24x3 times more per day than I could ever possibly desire.

The music, the hallow cheeriness, family, and the people who i would want to see most on that day being stuck with their families as well instead of seeing the people they want to see too.

One thing I do like and its not in particularly a Christmas thing but is around during this time is pumpkin ales.

I hate the holidays because of those Damn Salvation Army bell Santas (and parollies working off their time). They KNOW how to make you feel guilty; three words: "God Bless You". It's like, I DON'T CARRY CASH, LEAVE ME ALONE!!!

BUY! BUY! BUY! BUY! BUY!

I dislike all commercialized holidays, but Christmas is by far the worst. A couple of months ahead of time (one 6th of the year!), we start hearing about how much your loved ones would just *love* you to surprise them with expensive things (I heard one yesterday about how the family would love a $5000 ATV for Christmas). Just... Stop. So much of it's just people trying to convince you to buy stuff that you'd never buy under ordinary circumstances.

On a different note, and almost worse, is the heaping overload of expectations that get placed on people for Christmas (often pumped up by advertising depicting the "perfect holiday"). Who's spending time with who, who's traveling where, and who is and isn't displaying the proper amount of family togetherness and holiday cheer. Truly a seeming neverending fount of bad feelings, stress, and anger. No thank you. Probably doesn't need saying, but I've had more than my share of pretty bad Christmas experiences , and they center around this type of thing.

I know it's not that way for everyone -- and I can truly respect Christmas as a religious holiday, but frankly, I don't see that being a major part of its continued observance. If the whole "three wise men bringing gifts" story hadn't been such an easily exploitable hook for commercialism, it would be a very different (and better) experience for everyone (typing this as he listens to a stupid sales-pitch-to-a-holiday-tune commercial).

and, oh yes...

BUY!!!!!

Ah yes, and the travelling...my family is pretty scattered but I'm expected to traverse snow and state lines and visit them all...

Then again, if I wasn't compelled to by holiday ritual and family badgering I would probably be very patchy about visiting.

In my opinion, it is a waste of time, a waste of energy and infused with feely expectations that mean you don't care if you don't meet.

I personally dislike Thanksgiving more than Christmas, but mostly because there is a lot more family drama around Thanksgiving in my family than at Christmas time (not sure why...)

As for Christmas--break from school, get to see my family--not so bad.

If anything the one thing that bothers me about any holiday is just the expectation that goes into that one day--like for some reason on this one day things will be better, everyone will be happy, the food will be amazing, and everything will essentially be perfect. But life is never like that. And it really is just another day. So if people would just relax about it and let what is going to happen just happen I would like it a lot more (and it all reality they might too.)
