I'm interested in knowing what actual NT members do for a living, if they are happy in that capacity, and what they would rather do (if applicable). Feel free to keep it as vague or detailed as you are comfortable with. And, certainly things like "currently unemployed", "housewife", "student", and "Mr. Mom" are acceptable. If there are a lot of responses, I may tally up the responses and report back with the results. Should be interesting. Here are my questions for those who are willing to participate.

1. What is your type? (ENTJ, ENTP, INTJ, INTP)

2. What one thing, as a child, did you MOST want to do/see yourself doing for a living when you got older?

3. What is your current occupation?

4. How happy are you in that occupation? (let's assign grades for those who want to keep their answers short; A=VERY happy, B=fairly happy, C=ehh, it's a job, D=not a happy camper when I'm at work, F=completely fed up)

5. What one occupation/line of work do you currently wish you were in?

6. What are the roadblocks that are keeping you from your most highly desired occupation? (i.e., requires too much people interaction, don't want to spend 3 more years in school, would require too much time away from family, I'm just plain lazy and haven't done it yet, etc.)

I'll start.

1. INTP
2. Wanted to be a professional athlete
3. Currently unemployed/entrepreneur (in the start-up stage)
4. The entrepreneurial part is proving to be an "A". The unemployed part, of course, can be fun but difficult at times without a steady paycheck.
5. Wouldn't want to be in another field. Entrepreneurial is where I need to be.
6. I face roadblocks of laziness/lack of motivation or thinking I should go back to school and get something more steady. I think the biggest roadblock in years past was that I might fail miserably, but I no longer believe that.

Edit: Another roadblock is pressure from family and friends to do something more "normal" or to do what they think I should do. It's not so much a roadblock as it is a nuisance.

3. Student, unemployed otherwise
4. A/B
5. I prefer to think that I'm always right where I'm supposed to be. Why wish anything else?
6. Every roadblock is an opportunity. Occasionally, this opportunity a chance to refine a vision. If the initial road planned does not work, there is always another road.

1. What is your type? I am an ENT(jp)

2. What one thing, as a child, did you MOST want to do/see yourself doing for a living when you got older? From 7-10 wanted to be a neurosurgeon because I was convinced it was the hardest occupation to have. I also wanted to be a lawyer.

3. What is your current occupation? I am a student and a legal assistant mainly with a few other jobs mixed in.

4. How happy are you in that occupation? (let's assign grades for those who want to keep their answers short; A=VERY happy, B=fairly happy, C=ehh, it's a job, D=not a happy camper when I'm at work, F=completely fed up) Student = A, Legal Assistant = D+

5. What one occupation/line of work do you currently wish you were in?
I wish I was a lawyer or a meteorologist

6. What are the roadblocks that are keeping you from your most highly desired occupation? (i.e., requires too much people interaction, don't want to spend 3 more years in school, would require too much time away from family, I'm just plain lazy and haven't done it yet, etc.) Nothing. I will make it happen... or else :D

1. What is your type? (ENTJ, ENTP, INTJ, INTP)

ENTP

2. What one thing, as a child, did you MOST want to do/see yourself doing for a living when you got older?

Nothing. I had no clue, it's taken me years to really figure it out, one of the drawbacks with being a 'rennesance man' is the lack of commitment to any idea.

3. What is your current occupation?

Unemployed, headed into college shortly, courses shall be for animation and 3d design, focusing on video games <3

4. How happy are you in that occupation? (let's assign grades for those who want to keep their answers short; A=VERY happy, B=fairly happy, C=ehh, it's a job, D=not a happy camper when I'm at work, F=completely fed up)

Not sure yet, but hopefully A to B. There's always downsides, I mean work is WORK, if it were fun 100% of the time yeu wouldn't get paid right? I think this's one I could actually enjoy though long term ^^

5. What one occupation/line of work do you currently wish you were in?

Honestly I'd prefer working with AI scripting, writing, dialogue and level design for games, but there really isn't anything for courses for those, and I can do most of them already, using the other more to get my foot in the door, and going to branch out from there.

6. What are the roadblocks that are keeping you from your most highly desired occupation? (i.e., requires too much people interaction, don't want to spend 3 more years in school, would require too much time away from family, I'm just plain lazy and haven't done it yet, etc.)

Short attention span, lack of in-market contacts, lack of experience, lack of education (currently), the company I want to work for requires being in the USA to work for them which's going to mean all sorts of fun when trying to move down there eventually. Oddly, my ENTP personality has little effect on this as I specifically catered the decision around my strengths and weaknesses with that in mind, so that it would be one of the best things I could do without going crazy. Or at least no moreso than I already am.

1. What is your type? (ENTJ, ENTP, INTJ, INTP)
INTP.

2. What one thing, as a child, did you MOST want to do/see yourself doing for a living when you got older?
Space exploration / colonization (way to pick something realistic, Kelric!). But I'd still take it instantly were it possible.

3. What is your current occupation?
IT/programming/project management

4. How happy are you in that occupation? (let's assign grades for those who want to keep their answers short; A=VERY happy, B=fairly happy, C=ehh, it's a job, D=not a happy camper when I'm at work, F=completely fed up)
Varies a lot. Solving problems and designing/building applications gets an A, customer service gets a D+, the bureaucracy gets a solid D-, lack of appreciation (from my management and most clients) gets a D-. Overall I'd have to say D+. Maybe. I'd seriously think of doing something else if the opportunity arose.

5. What one occupation/line of work do you currently wish you were in?
Author, Professional Golfer, and of course, retired :D.

6. What are the roadblocks that are keeping you from your most highly desired occupation? (i.e., requires too much people interaction, don't want to spend 3 more years in school, would require too much time away from family, I'm just plain lazy and haven't done it yet, etc.)
Finances, don't want to / can't afford to start over (again), the rather low (haha, understating that :D) likelihood I'd be able to support myself writing or playing golf.

Lack of networking by an ENTJ?? Sounds like an INTP problem. I thought you guys were experts in that area.

Always wanted to be an astronaut. I am currently doing everything but that.

I'm happy because my career path changes often, and that alone is fulfilling. I switch back and forth between science related fields and media related, throwing in a few corporate gigs for good measure.

Currently own 3 businesses and I'm very happy, if not a little bored.

Never became an astronaut, or mission specialist, when I was younger because I always wanted to have a dream. Once realized, then I would have nothing to inspire me. Now, I am deterred because of all the discipline/commitment involved.

ENTJ

2. What one thing, as a child, did you MOST want to do/see yourself doing for a living when you got older?

Professional Athelte, Professional Alpinist, Investor

3. What is your current occupation?

Student (Actuarial sciences) and Translator (Italian-English-German)

4. How happy are you in that occupation? (let's assign grades for those who want to keep their answers short; A=VERY happy, B=fairly happy, C=ehh, it's a job, D=not a happy camper when I'm at work, F=completely fed up)

Student - B (some courses are great, others suck), Translator - A (although it's not stable to be a real career option, I think)

5. What one occupation/line of work do you currently wish you were in?

I'd like to be an Alpine Guide, at least as a part-time job.

6. What are the roadblocks that are keeping you from your most highly desired occupation? (i.e., requires too much people interaction, don't want to spend 3 more years in school, would require too much time away from family, I'm just plain lazy and haven't done it yet, etc.)

I'm still improving my technique, and my girlfriend and family are scared I might die.

2. I don't think I had many distinct ideas, But I knew that I didn't want to do most of the things that other people did. I drew a picture of me as a scientist once, and surprisingly enough, I am going to be a scientist. I guess I must have had a subliminal goal set up or something, but generally, I was all for creating options, rather than narrowing it down.
3. I'm no longer anything, I've deferred my uni course (Bsc), it was giving me attitude. First year I did Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry, and only did reasonably well (shocking compared to how I did in school). I just lost it, I didn't want to study and I procrastinated profusely. I couldn't get used to the university style of education I think. 2nd year I changed unis (because I was bored) and changed my focus to chemistry. I was having sleeping troubles at some point, and failed to turn up to some compulsory classes, the drama was too much for me, I wasn't doing very well, and I kind of gave up. I'm going back to the other uni and doing maths and physics, hopefully I'll get my shit together, in the meantime, I've been studying maths, playing guitar, looking for work and attempting to fix my sleeping patterns before I collapse into depression or something horrible like that.
4. I'd be more satisfied if I could kill all of the kinks, Lola was a great song, but they've just gone to far. I can't really answer C, because it's not a job...
5. hmmm... I was thinking about optical physics, nuclear physics or something along those lines, I've got plenty of opium options left.
6. *pre-discussed*

2. Cook, I wanted to do is professionally (a year in catering post school and I thought stuff that)

3. I'm a market researcher/insighter/manager - between posts right now....

4. A - I get variety can work in a number of industries (an one with customers), can invent new approaches/solve problems. Basically ideal for an ENTP as I'm not locked into routeen so much (although as a senior manager much of my time is spent in v dull meetings).

5. i'd like to be doing more innovations, but I suspect the reality of that might not be good, it means going back to agency and excessive travel etc

6. Nothing but wanting a different life

INTP, ennea 5w6 sp/so/sx.

2. What one thing, as a child, did you MOST want to do/see yourself doing for a living when you got older?

Jill of all trades, and master of all.

3. What is your current occupation?

I'm in high school, 3rd year. Currently aiming for software engineering, or programming.

4. How happy are you in that occupation? (let's assign grades for those who want to keep their answers short; A=VERY happy, B=fairly happy, C=ehh, it's a job, D=not a happy camper when I'm at work, F=completely fed up)

If I had to look into the future and make a guess, I'd say A/B-ish.

5. What one occupation/line of work do you currently wish you were in?

I think I'm on the right path so far.

6. What are the roadblocks that are keeping you from your most highly desired occupation? (i.e., requires too much people interaction, don't want to spend 3 more years in school, would require too much time away from family, I'm just plain lazy and haven't done it yet, etc.)

My most desired occupation? Well, the hours would be great, pay isn't too bad, but...to be honest, I'm just to lazy to pursue something so idealistic. The right job for me is probably one in which I wouldn't have to do much more than sit and think (and maybe type, in the case of programming). Which I seem to be best at anyway. :)

1. INTP.

2. I always figured I'd be a cartoonist. Unfortunately, that is largely predicated on one's ability to draw. Well. To my standard, anyway.

3. I'm sort of not really breaking even as a freelance writer and editor. I was okay before last fall. Right now, though -- oy. I'm exploring other options, because I don't know how tenable this is for how much longer.

4. C- to D+. No one really understands or appreciates what I write; it sucks the life out of me to do it; and I'm not getting paid enough to live on anymore. So, again, time to change things.

5. Right now I'm thinking I'd like to actually make use of my college experience and go back to sound. Probably voice work, as I have the training and the knack. I guess ideally, if the industry weren't so retarded, it would be neat to do game design. That's not going to happen, though.

6. Nothing really keeping me from assembling what I need to try out for some voiceover jobs. I'm working on it. The other thing, though -- I don't want to even talk about it. To hell with videogames.
