based on/speaking for my ENTP dad:

Alcohol is very bad. Don't drink it at all - just stay away from it. It could ruin your life, so just don't do it.

He sees no value in it nor is he persuaded by any comment that occasional, social drinking won't lead to alcoholism for almost everyone.
Don't know how much it'll bend til it breaks.

Sounds like another black or white ENTP. I've been considering giving up alcohol completely myself, only so my position on it can be more solid.

    It's ok.

Drinking to excess is retarded. I got that out of my system in college.

Now I'll have a few beers for fun but rarely more than 4 or 5.

If I drink a lot, all the social conditioning I've imposed upon myself just comes undone and I'm way too honest with people.

It's fun now and again but not something to be abused.

it's still weird to me to see this polarity between absitence and drinking enough to get drunk, however lightly. it's like there's no realization at all of the concept of just a single pint, to taste, to savour, to enjoy, to refresh, with drunkenness being nowhere in the equation. Cos I do that a lot, probably almost every day.

alcohol is whatever, I had alot of bad experiences with it actually. I think it's impossible for me to become an alcoholic.

so you would be giving it up not because you want to, but because you think it will make your position more solid. does that make you more solid? that seems like it would make you appear more solid, even to yourself, but wouldn't change your actual position.

Its useful for breaking down social inabitions but part from that i don't overly like it.
To be honest a litre of red rooster or 2 will do me just as well at a party!

I take a bit of red sometimes when I'm writing in the middle of the night and need to dial down my Ti. Or with some bread and cheese, for lunch. Noir or beaujolais, usually. I drink sake with sushi. Otherwise, I don't have much use for alcohol.

I seem to have quite a high tolerance. It takes a good deal to give a pronounced effect, and then I remain rational. It's just that my Ne comes more to the fore. And my motor skills diminish somewhat.

Though I'm hardly an expert, I am fond of wine. Had I more money, I might explore a little further. As it is, I tend to find the best possible deals and save the bottles for just the right moment.

i'm quite like substitute. i definitely don't need alcohol to socialise better, actually i think it sort of inhibits it, making me (and others) behave differently than normal. so drinking for me is all about the taste and sensations i get from drinking, so i rarely drink more than a glass or perhaps two (well, sometimes three) glasses of wine/cider - and i have to have a reason to drink at all.

but i can do 'curative' drinking when needed. which basically means i get *really* wasted when i need to get numb... just as substitute said - not for solving problems but rather for 'getting a break' from overwhelming feelings... which i will certainly deal with the next day. sort of like solving intellectual problems - if my mind gets twisted, i just take the time off for a while and then i suddenly see a solution. so - alcohol is a tool for taking a break from emotional problems - so i could see a solution.

i have done it three times. works like a charm when done correctly. don't try this at home, though

I just have one when I feel like it, more often in the summer months. Then I can go months and months without one. I certainly don't mind a social drink (mixed or wine) when eating out or with friends or maybe a beer with pizza and drinks on ice or frozen are great when it's hot out. I just don't think much about it.
I like to rock n' roll all night and *part* of every day. I usually have errands... I can only rock from like 1-3.
