xp user. Macs have some nice design features and clever ideas, but i am not about yet to pay for them as my vaio is basically the same machine as a mac book pro.

I hope the next version of windows does not suck as much as vista was supposed to. XP has been very stable for me. I am still on the delivered OS install, and after 3 years! Never got a virus, either due to using Spybot teatimer (and its free!).

For giggles, I looked at the knoppix version of linux, but enough software i use does not work well in any sort of almsot windows plug ins for linux and there are absolutely no replacements for them.

Enough software I use is also not written for mac

I normally use Windows XP, but I'd like to get into linux. I'm a heavy gamer though, can Linux run games that are compatable for Macs and Windows OS?

I suppose if they can't then I wont be switching to linux.

Macs are overpriced. True NT ballerz have custom PCs.
Window$ users never seem to have their facts right. For two computers with the same features the Mac is not only less but the cost of ownership is far lower and resale is 500% better.

The trouble is that Mac doesn't make a $299 wal-mart laptop but that doesn't make the Mac overpriced it makes the PC cheap and I don't mean less expensive.

The cost of ownership is virtually identical, but PCs give more options, more inter-operatability and stronger support. The only reason Macs are the least bit comparable is because they are extremely closed to the user - limited hardware and limited software.

The trouble is that macs are pre-packaged toys. That $299 ePC does exactly what it should - a friend picked one up (that'd be his 4th computer at home) for email and reading articles on the couch. Complain all you want, it's offered and it works.

That, and Microsoft is a software company. Complaining about MS "selling" $299 computers is foolish. Apple massively marks up hardware (500% resale value? Try their hardware upgrade margins...!)... and neither Apple or Microsoft are in hardware, really. Only difference? You get to pay a fortune for the service of branding your computer Appliscious. Granted, you get nicer hardware (for the most part) in macs, but, hey, that's why they don't sell cheap systems - cause their cheap systems get cut off to price-sensitive people.

Win XP with the newest SPs and updates.
I dislike Vista and 7 is still too new to use. So I don't think I will change anytime soon.

I'm dual booting Ubuntu and Windows 7 RC. I just replaced Vista with Win 7 today and so far it's been awesome.

Whatever, I win this debate! It's foolish anyway, there is no better, I don't live getting viruses, having to pay for software and crashes so I use a Mac. I like that I can run all my old Linux software on my Mac.

Stripped versions of Windows and Linux Live Distros

Macs are laughable for anyone but "simpler" types of computer users, IMO
