"What is your definition of deep and shallow?" - I think about this from a more functional perspective. Generalist vs. specialist. There are people who cultivate multiple friendships and many interests, more broadly, and people who cultivate few friendships and fewer interests, more deeply. I think everyone has the capacity to be deep or broad, but they also have a natural tendency.

"Which one do you consider yourself and why?" - I wouldn't say shallow, but I would just say I am naturally more general or broad-minded... global.

"Which one do you consider most people you know or "at large" (and why)?" - No clue. I think extraversion might be the link so I would guess shallow.

It will always be subjective and it will always depend on the situation.

For me, to have depth, means to (amongs other things) be non-judgemental of people and their general craziness and issues and the irony is that I have this attitude after a few years of extreme superficiality.

What is your definition of deep and shallow?

I don't know. This is one of those things you say to people but I've never given it much thought. I consider anyone deep if they have passions that they learn about/ care about more than the average person... This seems to be a bit biased towards the "arts" music, drawings, poetry...stuff of that nature.

I know a guy who knows so many facts and can spit them out effortlessly to anyone and relate them to what is being talked about. I don't consider him deep though. I don't know why. Maybe because he has such a broad range of knowledge that I have no clue where he really stands with most of it. He IS a nice guy though. A genius...really.

Which one do you consider yourself and why?

Me? I don't really know. I have my passions and I have been called "deep" before. I don't consider myself deep though. I don't really make a habit of comparing myself to others and saying I am deep is doing just that. I am who I am.

Which one do you consider most people you know or "at large" (and why)?

Not sure. I can have a good conversation about something deep with most people if I could just pick them off from their groups and talk to them. In this way I think everyone is potentially deep. You just have to catch them at the right time and talk about the right things.

I must say that I do compare a lot, other people are my reference point.
It's been ingrained in me since childhood and led to a sort of "must be the best" at all costs mentality I am currently trying to get rid of because it's just not healthy for anybody.
Ok that was too much about my life, now:
-I agree with you when you say everyone is potentially deep

It actually might not be such a bad thing to compare yourself to others I guess. It just depends on the context of it. My mom is a highly successful business woman because she has the mindset of wanting to be the best or do the best. I admire that about her but at the same time I worry how it effects her when she isn't "the best"

What type are you?

You can be deep about things that you find important and shallow about the rest. I wish I was more deep because there is no end to the amount of insight one can come to by continuing to think. The best I can do is try to think critically and accept my own limitations. Living with that goal or a similar goal in mind is what makes people deep, at least with time, I believe.

Ooh, Great Questions! Don't know if I repeated what's already mentioned above! :p

Deep or Shallow- Deep to me, are things that are more relevant/or personal. Shallow is more of superficial conversations- things that aren't very personal, a little more fake/redundant JMHO (think of the movie The Truman Show & how people talk/behave in that movie- artificial).

I tend to be deep, but most times, I have to keep conversations a bit superficial especially coming from where I live, where most people are a bit more into pop culture & everything's pretty cookie cutterish just like the track homes.. very corporate, very soulless! I have to play along.

Most people I keep in my inner-circle of (close) friends, tend to be deep. 'At large,' I would say that in my surrounding area, people tend to be more shallow due to their lifestyle. If it makes them happy, then fine. I'm all for it, so long as their actions don't hurt others. Although, I admit, it does make me feel as though my relationship to the community is shallow, which causes me to feel less assimilated, ultimately, less 'me.' I wish there was more diversity that I could identify with. I love randomness in people- that's what's deep to me! (All the idiosyncrasies that make a person unique, memorable, exciting to know..) I can only wish to someday move to a place where I can actually call 'home.' *Sigh* =D

Looking back on life so far( not that far, 17), descriptions, and INFPs I've talked to I must be INFJ. I think I am too so yeah INFJ it is.
Strangely though I never got in on a test...
Actually ,maybe I'm the only who thinks so but I believe there is a limit to what people can understand about things and other people or else we'd be mind readers or something. Basically what limits our "knowledge" is simply our life span or it may really be that we can't possible understand it all so in my opinion there is a limit.
(note: I understood "depth" as understanding things, events and people's way of thinking or feeling.)
But that's makes it interesting in my opinion, if I learned all there was to learn about life I don't know what I'd do with myself afterwards. I also wondered what life would be like if people where immortal, just how much "understanding" would we have?

I'm the kind of person who dives to the bottom of the ocean analyzes from the submerged part of the iceberg, up. But I have realized that most people are very uncomfortable with anything other than the tip. It's best when I meet people for the first time, that I talk about superficial topics before getting into anything too heavy. I easily get frustrated when I need to go deep and others don't. Actually most times, I keep things to myself. I'd much prefer to explore through some creative means on my own, than with another person.

To me, a shallow conversation is one about planting flowers, fixing cars and cooking.
A deep conversation would be about ideas and feelings and attempts at understanding the human heart.

I agree. I like to talk about ideas, concepts, theories, meaning, and feelings, but most people seem to socialize by gossiping.

That comes as no shock to me. The test is frankly not that good, and I've come to realize this more and more as I see friends take it. I only tested as an ENTP for a short period of time when I first became interested in the theory.

If we don't have your type labelled by your name, I really don't care to read your posts. About a quarter to a third of the information I get from from these forums is what people post. The rest comes from contemplating why someone of the type would post that way, so thank you for making a decision and posting it, even though if it is not right, then two thirds to three quarters of the information I read from your posts will be completely fallible!

Subjective.

I think I am extremely shallow. I am superficial, I care about how I look externally. If I am feeling extremely insecure I can be judgmental based on superficial looks.:frown:

I really don't like this about myself. :boohoo::thumbdown:

I think everyone is self-conscious about their appearance but to a different extent. Everyone judges on outward appearances and obviously we are aware of that because if people didn't we wouldn't care in the first place:):
- the way they are dressed
- their body
- their face
- etc..
It's not always the same criteria though. I categorize as "outward appearance" anything that is not related to "you as a person".
Some people would say :
"you're so shallow you only care about the way my body looks!"
yet she'd only care about what's in his bank account...

True. But in reality, actual "deep" thoughts and feelings are pretty private, and I generally keep them to myself. Words are shallow. You don't need to have a conversation about understanding the human heart to achieve depth.. Nonverbal communication beats it all
