That's basically what I meant. For me its more like my mind is subconsciously chewing on the problem and after doing something it goes 'Ping!' and I get it and wonder wtf happened that triggered everything.Such insights do come unwarranted and after a seemingly unrelated event, if that is what you mean. But they certainly don't come from nowhere.
