    Cynical.
I got my smile from the sunshine,
I got my tears from the rain.
I learned to dance when I saw a tiger prance,
And a peacock taught me to be vain.
A little owl in a tree so high,
He taught me how to wink my eye.
I learned to bill and coo from a turtledove,
And a grizzly bear taught me how to hug.
But the guy that lived two caves from me,
He taught me how to love.

In the mood for some social reform... like wanting to set up a demonstration in Washington D.C.

still pretty out-of-sync.... I don't know what weird schedule my body is one, but it definitely doesn't feel like 1pm (MN time) OR 4am (Australia time). Something in between, I guess...

I am having a really bad week.

Saturday is my mom's anniversary. I can't take the day off because of an event going on at work. Speaking of work, our sales are abysmal. The event is nowhere near the success it has been the past 5 years. So much falls just on me to do, and I am getting burnt out. My pet of 12 years is getting old and I have an appointment next week with the Vet to look at whether I need to put her down or not.

    F*cking cranky, now.

University policy says no receipt needed for travel expense reimbursements under $25. So when I was in Australia, I didn't bother to ask for taxi receipts for like $12 fares, and when I did my expense report, I didn't include receipts for things like $5 bus fare, even though I did have them. Now I find out that our department used to have a policy of requiring receipts for everything, except meals. I knew we used to need to provide receipts for everything, but I know the U policy has changed recently, so I just assumed that it had changed from requiring receipts to not requiring receipts. When I went to ask the finance person, she got all pissy with me:

Her: I don't know what you mean by non-food expenses under $25. Give me an example.
    Me: $5 bus fare.
Her: So you don't have a receipt.
Me: Well I do have a receipt, but I didn't include it in my expense report because I looked at the U's policy and thought I didn't need to. I can add it if that helps.
Another finance person (overhearing our conversation): You don't need a receipt for anything under $25.

Okay, good. At least someone has some sense! I looked, and a "separate" policy for our dept was not listed on our website; it just refers you to the U-wide policy, so I better not get bitched at for not following the unwritten pseudo-policy! :rolli:. (The cranky finance person is also the person who made dogs be disallowed at our work picnic last year, even though it was at an OUTDOOR, PUBLIC park, because she's allergic to them. Um, if you're that allergic to dogs, then don't go by the dog. I can guarantee there will be other dogs in the public park! And then she didn't even go to the picnic. So yeah, I don't like her very much.)

    Numb.
My Grandpa passed away a little while ago. I am upset, but I'm not feeling it yet. I'm focusing on the fact that I need to do this philosophy final exam essay before 12am so I don't fail the class. It is backlogging my emotions. Le sigh. More worried about my Dad, and my newly-found inability to console.

Yearning for independence. I want to take life by the reigns and drive it the direction I choose. I am an adult, and capable.
