I always thought ENFP, but lately he's been trying to be something else, it seems. and I can't figure out what he's going for, erugh

I think it's just him trying to be "cooler". He used to be quite funny and outgoing. Nowadays he's just trying to be a bit more cold and 'mature'. A bit more INTX like.
