Alanna: The First Adventure by Tamora Pierce.

Idealistic to the extreme in the most down to earth sense of it, about people's dreams coming true, it's big on showing what is going on in the character's lives so you can't help but become attached to them. I would recommend anything by Tamora Pierce or her daughter Merideth Ann.
Kantgirl: Just say "I'm feminine and I'll punch anyone who says otherwise!"
Halla74: Think your way through the world. Feel your way through life.

Cimarron: maybe Prpl will be your girl-bud
    prplchknz: i don't like it

The Unbearable Lightness of Being--fantastic book giving the T vs. F perspective on intimate relationships with the backdrop of social change.

    1984--brilliant and frightening

    It's life's illusions I recall

Anything by Dean Koontz. - He's the new Stephen King, IMO, I like his style with unforgettable characters.
