Vehicles are quite like tools in my mind, they aren't really random at all. The only times they are random are during... rare occurrences that honestly require some bad luck (like a tire popping).

My opinion is that vehicles aren't random.
People are random.

I completely agree.

Actually, I am more inclined to say 75% of drivers are idiots. They get behind the wheel and think they are invincible. :D

I used to drive OTR and it amazed me how close to my bumper the idiots would get. Then they flip me the bird when my 80,000 lb. vehicle didn't stop on a dime. I had to restrain myself from going into car crushing mode several times.

But I still love driving, and even the twits on the road today aren't going to keep me from enjoying it.

I love driving and like fast trucks. Cars are limited to the roads and bound in by curbs and sidewalks:devil:

I do love driving. By myself. Just for kicks (or to get to a far away place). With music. I could do it all day, really. I also do a lot of thinking while driving, but even if I'm lost in my thoughts driving is pretty much instinctual, anyway. Also I like exploring new routes and just impulsively and randomly go off track.

I like driving, but I hate driving my car. It's a POS.

I absolutely love driving. I like being in control of the vehicle, making it go fast, judging distances, clearing my mind as I look out into the distance. Sometimes my brain gets stagnant and I just hop into my car and drive around, and it clears away all the cobwebs and gives me a new perspective. I do not like riding in the passenger seat while someone else drives. I just feel kind of superfluous or something. And I HATE cruise control. If I'm going to drive, I want to actually drive the car.

As a completely irrelevant sidenote, I am an excellent parallel parker, and I drive really well in city traffic. I think the key is not to panic.

So I am the only one so far who doesn't love driving? Maybe because there is a social pressure to want to drive, so the others with an orientation like me are just staying quiet? Or maybe it actually is a little rare (although our sample size thus far in the thread is meager).

Clearly it's not anything specifically isolated to INFJness

Depends on which cars you are talking about. (See my previous thread. )

Do you like driving? When I ask this, I don't mean liking it for the "FREEDOM" or flexibility it gives you. I mean, do you like the actual physical task of driving? Do you find it easy or hard to concentrate on everything around you? Do you enjoy the sensations of driving?

And what functional strengths do you think most facilitate safe driving?

Why am I asking? I drove for about 5 hours today and pondered this question. So I'm tossing it out here!

Yes I like it so much I don't follow the speed limit...like speed so much I broke down and bought a sportscar...

Several weeks ago a cop pulled me over...just made up some warning then asked to see me do 0 to sixty...I smelled 'ticket' so I declined his request..but then he got on his external speaker from inside his car and asked me to do it, seriously...I wonder what ran through people's heads driving by when they saw a cop car get its doors blown off then did nothing about it..

I only drive around for about 10 minutes at a time regularly, but it's... rather hard for me to concentrate, which is worrying to say. I mean, it takes more effort than would seem natural haha... but even then I still generally like driving. I think I just need more experience with it... I'm not good at imagining the spacial body of the car and it's relation to other things outside. ... :p

Heehee I feel the same way about that too. My hubby uses the cruise control all the time on the highway and I never do. I like to feel that the car is under MY control, not some arbitrary device controlling the speed for me LOL!

Depends on the nature of the drive.

I don't like driving for long periods of time on a freeway, especially in the middle of nowhere. It's boring as hell. I especially hate it when my leg cramps up or when I get the feeling that I have to pee. I also dislike pumping gas or even the thought of having to stop at a gas station. Don't know why though. But I love fueling up in Oregon, because they do it for me. And the attendants are usually quite friendly and helpful (at least the ones I've ran into).

But I seriously enjoy the physical feeling of the car as it revs to my command. I like the control. Just recently I learned how to drive stick and I sort of fell in love with it. Now I wish my car had a stick... I'm also fond of feeling the pull of inertia when driving on curvy roads. When I'm feeling adventerous I like to pass cars on two lane highways. But I've almost gotten myself killed for doing so. One time I tried to pass a truck going up a steep hill, but once I got in the opposite lane this huge bus comes over the hill coming straight for me. My car was having more difficulty with the hill then I thought it would so I'm bascially side-by-side with the truck making little progress ahead of it now with gravity escorting this bus towards my inevitable doom. Then the bus driver starts to freak and edge itself as close as it can onto the shoulder while I floor it to 95mph. Well, as one might imagine, I survived... by about one car length. :rolli: And the experience was all the more humourous since there was a passing lane about a mile later. However, on most days I'm not nearly as adventerous. Normally I'm quite a tame driver.

Heehee I feel the same way about that too. My hubby uses the cruise control all the time on the highway and I never do. I like to feel that the car is under MY control, not some arbitrary device controlling the speed for me LOL!
Yeah but cruise control is your best friend when you have to drive for 12 hours almost nonstop on the same damn freeway at the same damn speed.

I used to be an Se dominant and I loved it, physically. Whenever I got stressed out, driving helped me relaxed. I couldn't think of any other things except driving and what was around. I put my whole mind into it and loved everything about that.

Now as an Ne, I still love it, but mentally, especially alone on highway with high-volume music on AT NIGHT. Those are the best times to wander my mind or process/reorganize all the information I got stuffed in during the day.

The big difference is that when I was Se, I loved teaching my friends how to drive. Now I can't. I got so frustrated teaching my brother how to drive last December since having to paying attention to what he did, or to the traffic around exhausted me so much. The most annoying thing was that I had to tell him how to follow exact rules and structures as a new driver. Funny that I used to enjoy and got so good at it.

I love to drive. Maybe it was how I learned. My dad was a cop and drives like a cop and taught me how to drive like a cop too. He wouldn't let me have my license until I could drive an automatic and manual, parallel park correctly, avert a hostile chase, creative shoulder usage and so on.

That being said, I try to drive less now. Not because I don't love driving. But I hate traffic. I won't do a long commute again (60 miles round trip 5 days a week for 7 years was plenty). Some days I like to enjoy the scenery. Fortunately my husband drives much of the time and drives a lot for his job. It kind of boggles my mind how he doesn't get more tired from it than he does.

Answer to the OP:
Yes, I used to but I don't like it anymore (at least during slippery weather) because of the car accident I was in...

I hate driving. I would prefer a motorbike for its maneuverability and simplicity.

AHH!
I love driving. Probably because I feel in control/in charge and I have a chance to listen to my music in peace.

I love it. Possibly because it took me a while to master the art of it. :) My last car was a joy to drive.
