I've heard a few people say hes an INTP though i think he is actually an INxP

Beck always seems Ni to me.

Hendrix seems INFP... sometimes I think ISFP but the more I listen to interviews and stuff the more he definitely seems to be N.

Definatly N cause he went on about how he tried to copy the beautiful sounds in his head he heard when stoned.

I'll ignore the "quick, sharp responses" as anti-sensorism and the goatee as a joke. The main interview I'm thinking of was unfortunately in a reputable Australian broadsheet magazine which I can find no links to (the magazine article, not the broadsheet). In it he mentioned that he "sees" music. It takes an almost visual form, which helps him identify what's appropriate and what isn't. I think he said that he'd wondered if he had some form of autism because of that. I wish I could quote directly/exactly, but I read the magazine about 2 years ago and have subsequently lost it in one of my many moves. When I read it, though, I thought "Sensor" right away. Then I thought "Fucking MBTI is taking over my life, this is a problem".

Consider also his penchant for quirky bit-characters in movies. That in itself doesn't prove anything, but I consider it a more likely hobby of an ISFP than an INTJ. He even played a wacky inventor in Mystery Men. A character entirely lacking in gravitas, and certainly a backward step compared to some of his other roles. And his love-affair with boots? Doesn't seem like an INTJ passion to me.

Nice. Thanks for sharing this chunk. This thread is breaking a lot of boundaries in my mind, as far as "oh man, only xnxxs can be really creative introvert-types" types of thoughts.

tom waits- i can see isfp. a lot of the avant-garde sound at least on the early records comes from the guitarist marc ribot. and the texture of the records, their sound, is really what makes it work.

i can see billy corgan as an enfj too. Fe Ni Se sounds more right than Fi Ne Si and more right than Ni Fe Ti. also the controlling nature, the sound of smashing pumpkins records, the lyrical epiphanies, the extremely volatile relationship squabbles within the band.

Yes, my favorite part of posting--explaining my thoughts rationally.

Regarding Beck, I had a mental block in my head, an assumption for the longest time that the intp could not be as emotional as the infp. It took some venturing out of my cave to meet some new people to find that this is not true at all. And some watching youtube videos.

What might make him seem like an infp: he is very security/family-driven (YouTube - Beck on a new label (NRK Lydverket)). Despite this, as the next paragraph will explain, these feelings aren't bound by type.

Why my conclusion is that he is intp: his mouth is open nearly all time and there's a certain detachment he has to the music he makes (YouTube - Beck - Interview MV - "I just get in and let the music out. I don't really think about it." 0:50). Though in the same interview, the way in which he acknowledges his band in the crowd (as his "family" if I remember correctly) which tells me his Fe is very developed.

I only gazed over the mention of scientology on his wikipedia and his association with them, but I'd guess his reasoning is to have that blanket/illusion of security, detached as he is.

Harry Nilsson, infp, has been another strange study for me, too. His songs are about life, death, humanity, philosophy, psych., the mind - all enveloped in the fog that is his voice. I see his emotions as an unusually powerful embodiment of his striving for knowledge and universal understanding rather than earthly love, whereas Beck uses his logic to endlessly search for security, family and love. Because their strengths are so strong in their detachments, they are also their weaknesses... which makes for good entertainment. Comparing the two of them helps expose, I think, what is and has been so unusually alluring about them for a lot of people.

I've recently been listening to music from John Ondrasik from Five for Fighting. Love his music. I don't know anything about the guy personally, but his songwriting seems very INFPish to me.

I disagree, from what I've observed.

There is concert footage of him being harassed by a man on a dvd they released a few years ago. On it, Homme almost acts frantic in his search for something mean to say to the guy, and sounded really awkward doing so. I'd say he's very emotional. He's also very well-read and written. English major in college. I know enfjs are not adverse to such a major.

For infj lovers out there, Homme collaborators Alain Johannes and his (late) wife Natasha fall into that category. Homme's current drummer is estp, second guitarist is isfp, keyboardist is intp, and semi-new bassist seems enfp... very enthusiastic with the head.

It would make even further sense if Homme were enfj because, knowing Harvey is istp, I have read that there were rumors about them getting together but the idea that they might be a conflicting pair after all sorts the issue out in my head a little.
