funhouse! yeah, if he's infp, he has a sense of humor as dry as any istj's biting remarks but still very black and white, very plain and honestly very boring, a very sandy dry wit. When I saw him play in la, I remember walking past him and eventually speaking to him at his merchandise table and I got istj vibes from my peripheral, the sense that he was watching me walk by before with those wary eyes I get from them sometimes. infp eyes tend to be better at concealing their interest than istj.

Thanks for drawing me back to introverstion concerning Neil. The way some estps can speak so quiety often convinces me wrongly that they're introverted. Ask someone who listens to the guy. If his music has any Fi, it has little appeal to me for some reason. Some really boring and stinky lyrics on those "classic" albums in my opinion.

ryuichi sakamoto i would like to check out... some day.

jonathan richman, you think he is dominant Fe? i don't know him that well other than the modern lovers record and his self-titled, but his songs don't have the intensity of feeling that i would expect from enfj. they are more cheeky. closer is my favorite jonathan richman song, and my own personal sex anthem.

please explain shannon hoon and lou barlow. actually shannon hoon just FEELS way more infp to me than j. sooooo much more. the songs are pretty drippy, and they don't really elucidate the context enough to make you feel like a j type would. it's not about roles it's more about what happens internally to HIM. lou barlow and j mascis both infps, hmm. that would explain why they couldn't get along at all, and then could, and then couldn't, and then could etc. will oldham as an isfp makes sense to me, he is not very writerly compared to songwriters i like (in the N sense). i'll see bonnie prince billy when they come into town, but i'm afraid i might fall asleep like an old person with diapers on trying to see a picture at the movie theatre. i'm also thinking the fiona apple infp/isfp thing is a good question. the song criminal, extraordinary machine, i see some strong intuition there. same old problem, again and again.

ps what are you talking about with superego? i've never made the leap as far as getting into that stuff and not feeling like robin williams in good will hunting.
A friend (enfj + english teacher) reminds me exactly of Jonathan. He also told me about seeing him play and how he has great control over the crowd.

Studying Hoon and Barlow any more would require putting in my stupid earbuds when my ears are perfectly comfortable listening to the charming R. Stevie Moore on this dusty bose stereo. I'll develop some thoughts (not guaranteeing deep) tomorrow.

Check out Austin Powers 2 with Heather Graham. Remember that? I can so see Fiona Apple in that one. Or in any other of her movies that they air on tv. And have you seen her Howard Stern interview in which he pops an audio rocket over her? That's duality right there.

I'm just one to use superego/conflicting relations because my pattern recognition abilities aren't such that I can single out someone's primary/axillary functions without exhausting my Si to death. Te is a little too dead tonight to explain further.

    This is fun!

Only s/songwriter I know well enuf to comment on is Loudon Wainwright. While agree with the nfp part, Loudon is a classic gregarious introvert. Despite his high-voltage public persona, he's described by all close friends and relatives as very quiet offstage. Nose always in a book, needs a nap every afternoon to recharge, used to get drunk in order to party, etc. He did go to acting school!

Strongly agree, I think that not only was Hendrix an N, it was one of his most expressed traits.

Somebody mentioned "guy from Sun Kil Moon." That's Mark Kozelek, who cut 5-6 albums with Red House Painters before Sun Kil Moon came along. He's about as INFP as they come.

No they're not. I have followed them since early At the Drive-in. Omar is a textbook INTJ and Cedric is INTP. They both bleed NT.

Some NF musicians off the top of my head are Bjork, Jimi Hendrix, Thomas Yorke, John Frusciante, Neil Young, and possibly Tom Waits.

    I wouldn't doubt it.

Yorke is infj, the Frusciante guy is infj, the collective is leaning towards Neil being isfp, and the way Tom spins stories from inanimate objects has us thinking infp.

At the end of the day, I still say he's entp. He seems introvert because he was born in early September. Oh man, sticking my dick into taboo territory here...

I dunno...these videos aren't exactly giving me an INFP vibe. But I'm not sure what else she would be other than I (and N). She seems kind of "hard," if you know what I mean. She was more than ready to make that interviewer look like an idiot, and seemed to have little patience to suffer her. Not exactly the sweet type.

Edit: Hmmm...I've seen some more interviews. It seems like she is very blunt, and she tends to get verbal diarrhea. Also, she says a lot of silly things and makes some pretty inane metaphors, like she wants to say something incredibly poetic but doesn't exactly have the ability. I'm also not so sure on the E/I now. Since I'm interested and invested in this now, I'm going to make a new thread in the popular culture section.

Hmm, I've met him, I used to think INFP but after meeting him he seems very much ISFP irl... very concerned with the world of the senses, extremely sensitive to his physical environment. I think it comes out in his writing too. It's laden with sense memory that relates only to his own experiences.
