    Default Helping People

Today, driving to Guitar Center, I passed an old woman walking in the opposite direction. She had silver and white hair and looked to be in her 60's. It snowed about 4 inches last night and was raining all day today. I thought about it for a minute and turned around to ask her if she would like a ride. She said, "oh no, I live right up there."

"Are you sure? It's really no trouble."

"No, I'll be fine. Thank you, though.

I said okay, and then turned around to get to my destination.

I know she refused my help, but I still felt I should have helped her. Ever experience this?

[EDIT]Also, it was a good half-mile before the next houses in the direction she was going.[/EDIT]

all the time. i hate feeling like i can't stop and help someone because they could hijack me...thoughts drilled into my heads by others...i would still like to stop though and always feel bad when i don't and think about them for a bit after.

    I know what you mean!

I feel like crap when I wish I can help, but can't.

Ex- I worked at a pharmacy, and this old man who used to deliver bread all the time, couldn't afford to pay for a month supply of heart medications that ran for about $450 U.S. dollars (something like that). He could barely afford 2 pills, so we asked if we can sell him at least 1 until his next paycheck came in.. which ran for about.. $35.

Poor guy barely could afford 1 pill for his heart-meds. He cried on me. And, he was a long-time customer. He even cried saying, "Even with the next paycheck, I can't even afford half of the month supply." Mind you, this guy looked like he had a healthy weight. He works hard too. Perhaps, because of his low income, he chose foods that weren't as healthy, which resulted in him having high levels of LDL cholesterol.

Either way, it broke my heart that I couldn't do more to help. The current system is so highly regulated that even if we wanted to donate 1 pill to him, there would be penalties (within corporate rules & legalities).

I DEFINITELY know how it feels..

I know how it feels. I experience it all the time. When they refuse I'm like "are you suuuure?"

Yes, it's a real kicker. You see someone who clearly needs a hand, but you can't do anything about it. Makes my Justice function go berserk.

I actually do give a hand to some of these people...

    I like sleeping at night.

Though there is a possibility that one of these people who need help will put me to sleep...

Im not normally a very helpful or guess you could say kind person. Im not down right rude, I just stick to my own concerns and those of my loved ones. But recently I guess things have been changing. Ive had several situations where ive gotten the urge to help someone i saw who was elderly, but every time its a a time when I really wouldnt be able to help them. And its always an extremely disappointing feeling know i might have been able to help someone but didnt.

The last instances of this was on my way home from work with my cousin about two weeks ago, we carpool. Going down one of the long high traffic streets we take back home I saw a woman in probably her late forties changing the rear left tire on her van. The only reason I didnt pool over and asked if I could help was cause my cousin was driving and he actually had somewhere he needed to be after work so we were rushed.

It can get a little tiring accepting other people's help.
