[INFP] Do INFPs often question their type? Or is it just me?

empathy can get so strong that we believe we are more like others around us. The questioning about ourselves is because we are continually trying to hone ourselves to become better than ourselves. Kind of a paradox to others huh?

Wow, I never thought of it like that but that actually makes alot of sense to me. :)

I read that over again after BerberElla's post. And it does make a lot of sense, in a strange confusing way.

Often! It's not just you obviously haha... the only thing I'm sure of is my introversion
jtanSis1's explanation seems to make some sense for why this happens though

I think the difficulty finding this thing called "conventional identity" is likely connected to being Fi dominant. ISFPs also seem to have difficulty boxing themselves into some kind of easily recognizable, defining characteristic or fitting some kind of type pattern. But instead of seeing it like a bad thing, I think it would be a kind of unparalleled freedom.

If that made any sense. :D

I get you. In the beginning when I first discovered all of the types and read about them I felt completely unsure. I think I took at least 10 different tests and they all came out the same. And I still question whether or not I truly fit that mold. A lot is to determined with MBTI's. I don't think anyone fits their type to a 'T', we all have shades of gray matter in between. I think it's better to not think about it too much or try to force yourself into a type.

I question my type all the time. When officially tested, I was INXP, however the INFP description does fit best.
I once was told that INFP's are the "extroverted introverts", meaning we are so hard figure out because in some ways we are so out there, particularly when our passions are flaring, or when some internal line is crossed, and we can be outspoken when there is need, and then we just retreat.
I don't know what do you guys think?

That would make sense, people find it hard sometimes to believe I am an introvert because of how crazy I am when I am out and about lol infact even I find it hard to see it, but only during my good phases, in my bad phases I can easily understand why I am an introvert.

/agree! But my problem is I tell myself not to worry about it and then I continually do, especially when I notice myself doing something that isnt particularly "Infpish" But like you said grey areas.

Totally! I find myself very extroverted sometimes especially in a group of buddies, but then I totally recognize when I've hit my limit. 2-4 hours of it and Im totally exhausted and ready to be left alone for at least 24 hours, preferably more.

My morning person is about as Iish as you can get, I just want to murder the first thing that makes noise.

And I hate it when I become the center of attention, its like I do/say something, accidentally pull all the attention onto myself, realize I've got it and then pee my pants...

:rofl1: Me too. Not all the time, when I've had long bouts of quiet time I can be quite hyper in the morning, but if I have been over socialising then I am liable to bite (and not in a good way :D)

I do this too, espcially if it is really focused attention. I remember getting up on stage with a huge bunch of people at a rave once, started dancing, and the next thing I know, everyone else was moved off the stage and there was a god damn spotlight and camera filming me dancing solo lol I couldn't bail straight away without showing how uncomfortable I was, but then I couldn't handle the pressure anymore and sort of sidled off the stage back to lose myself in the crowd.

Teach me never to get up on a stage anymore.

It's like using material from others to learn from. Maybe we are the ones most likely to learn from others instead of the "hard way" of experience. Also, thanks for the praise, since it helps me to know that I'm really helping out. I guess I just contemplate these things more than most to get a better understanding of myself and others for everyone's benefit.

I cant say this exactly has ever happened to me, but I know the feeling on a much smaller scale, the most obvious instance that comes to mind involves a college classroom full of students, and my persuasive speech on why ninjas are cooler then pirates :p

Seriously though, I thought about your comment before and it was very good, keep it up!
