Ffs, I feel like I can't go anywhere these days without seeing some reference to this show.

    This was my initial reaction.

    Left? Or libertarian/anarchist?

People really need to learn the difference.

The single axis political spectrum is for mental midgets.

Ricks character is the like the manifestation of an archetypal person I want to put in a box and throw away the key. I can not stand that level of unbridaled careless chaos, I can't even watch it.

I might like the show if he weren't in it, but I get so frustrated by his charater to the point where the show in unwatchable to me.

    I'll stick to steven universe.
This is how I feel about Bojack Horseman. I think my tolerance for Rick comes from how enjoyable Morty is as a character.

I'll join you in the Steven Hiatus corner, though.

    This.
Morty is also insufferable to me. I really do not like much about the show at all.

As a side note, I actually dislike Steven in Steven Universe. I sort of tolerate him. He irritates me because he's too idealistic and aloof for my taste, that and he is often too nice/forgiving/sacrificing. He is really the only thing I dislike about the show though.

Morty is pretty bad in the first few episodes but the focus slowly shifts to him. A common description of his character arc is "Morty loses his innocence and then becomes the only person in his family who isn't self destructive".

Hopefully Steven actually faces a consequence at least once in the overall narrative. I swear the kid never gets in any real trouble for anything he does yet he constantly screws people over. He's also pretty inconsistent overall. I am definitely one of those fans who lore hunt, so opinions on him flip and I really can only blame it on poor episode writing as opposed to poor character.

Steven is more or less the lightning rod that allows us to see gem society develop those characters. I think it's pretty obvious to the writers that the majority of the fanbase is much more interested about the gems and their society, than steven. He's sort of the boat that allows everyone to get there. When you think about it, the story isn't about steven. The story is about the gem society. It is the most important thing in the series. As such steven us more or less the tool to tell that story, and he is bended around to do it as needed.

You think the show will completely abandon the slice of life format?

I hope they do, but they won't. They do have to cater to their core demographic, who values that aspect of the show. Also, Sugar has said multiple times that she wanted this show to be a sort of inverted fantasy; fantasy characters in a normal world. I doubt she will let go of that.

Take the weakest thing in you
And then beat the bastards with it
And always hold on when you get love
So you can let go when you give it
