Default What side do you walk on, where are you from?

I've noticed that here in america, most people tend to walk on their right side, be it on the sidewalk, in the hall, etc. I think it has to do with the fact that we drive on the right side here. I know that other countries drive on the left side, so I was wondering if the people there tend to walk on the left side as well, or if people walk on the right side regardless of how they drive.

I am intergalactic so it depends on what country I am in at the moment. To me, you walk on the same side as you drive. It is efficient and intuitive. People who don't get this simple premise and walk all over the place baffle and annoy me . . . or worse, if I am in a hurry to get somewhere.

I know when walking down the street with out a sidewalk you're suppose to walk on the side going against traffic, I guess that's so you can see the cars coming and jump out of the way before they hit you. Though I learned this while in the middle of nowhere, I don't think it matter so much in a well populated area. I usually walk on the side most conveint for me. Passing people really whatever side is easiest for me to get around them.

But I always drive on the right, but that's the law.

and I worry about those of you who drive all over the place. How did you pass your drivers test?? Oh wait, never mind.

Yeah, my parents always drilled into me to walk against car traffic. That being said, you walk on the side of the road that is closer, duh. Although if there is no sidewalk (some areas suck, yo), I definitely prefer walking on the left side.

It's extremely useful to have a protocol, so people may actually get where they're walking. Doesn't matter a bit what it actually is.

Drive on the right, walk on the left.

I walk on the left so that I can see who is approaching me. It's safer.

Yeah really. People who walk on the left in crowded corridors annoy me because they disrupt the flow of traffic. I don't know why they seem incapable of noticing that everyone else is on the right.

Walking on the left on a non-sidewalked road is different, since there's the added factor of seeing maniac car drivers.
