Lol, well there is ultimately no accounting for taste.

The first Star Wars movie was really a breakthrough movie in a lot of ways though. Also while I like "Empire Strikes Back" a lot too, I only give it a 4.5 mostly because it doesn't stand on its own plot-wise. "A New Hope" can be taken out of the context of the other films without really losing anything. (There are a few other minor reasons why I like "A New Hope" better, but that is the main one.)

Thank you. I have been saying almost exactly that for years. I will now ask you to be my friend because you are the duck's guts.

Have you seen George Lucas's revisions? They're a disgrace. You can't even get the original THX-1138 on DVD. So a revision by an artist who has lost his talent is no better than a revision by someone else.

And most of the new stuff in Apocalypse Now Redux is as dull as dirt. Still, it's up to the artists and copyright holders to decide. We can always rain down derision upon them via the Internet, though. Besides, artists are often some of the worst judges of their own work. How often does an artist who is on a downward trajectory quality-wise declare that their newest film/album/book is their "best/favorite work yet?" Some of it may be marketing, but they often believe it, too. People joke about failed artists becoming critics, but there are only a few artists who would be top-tier critics in their respective fields, IMHO.

    The Seven Samauri
    Casablanca
    It's a Wonderful Life
    Life is Beautiful
    Forest Gump
    Star Wars: A New Hope
Les Miserables (Black and White Version)
Omgsh I love those. I haven't seen The Seven Samauri or Casablanca but if they're anything like the others then they must be great.

Seven Samurai is pretty good, but the formula's been done out so much it might seem old hat, which it is. It's 3.5 hours long too iirc.

To you guys I recommend Amelie if you haven't seen it.

@ Disregard: Yeah I heard Rocky Horror was good.

@ Jack Flack: Over three hours long? Oh geez haha. Well I haven't seen to many samurai movies so maybe it won't seem old to me.
